Dear baby Karina,
I can’t believe you are already more than 4 months old. I had no clue what to expect when you came into this world, but I’m happy to report you have filled me with more joy than I could have ever imagined.
Each morning, you wake me up with your little baby noises and greet me with a happy little dance. You generally have kicked off your blanket already, ready to conquer the day. Even though at times it’s earlier than I’d like, once you smile at me, I can’t help but smile, too.
You already have the ability to light up the room and make people smile. You LOVE attention, so you’ve earned the name “little ham” for your attention-getting abilities, and well, your chunky thighs.
We get a lot of comments on what a big baby you are. Don’t worry — this is no indication of how you will be as an adult. Look at your uncle Derek — he’s skinny as a rail, but was a big baby too! I crazily worry comments might hurt your feelings, but I know you know it’s all in good fun…right? Don’t take it personally.
On that note, you LOVE to nurse. Seriously. People wonder how I’ve dropped weight, and while running helps, I also think you are stealing away everything I eat. I’m proud your little rolls are just from me nourishing you. You refuse to take a bottle, but I pray we’re getting there. I love you to pieces, but mama needs to get out without feeling enormous guilt because you aren’t eating for daddy.
Speaking of daddy, besides bottle difficulties, you adore him. The second he walks in the door after work, you get an enormous grin. You know your daddy, and I love watching the two of you interact.
While you could care less about rolling over, you have hit the belly laugh milestone. There’s not a sweeter sound in our lives right now. When we get you in a laughing fit, everything in the house stops and everyone comes over to see you. You never fail to put on a good show. I often wonder if I have a future performer on my hands. I already envision you sharing the stage with your sister…
You and Kinley are two peas in a pod. You love following her with your eyes around the room, and she loves making you smile and greeting you with a “Good morning, Karina!” in the morn and bedtime kisses at night. I feel so blessed to witness your sisterly bond forming before my eyes.
Thank you for showing us that we have plenty of room in our heart for you. In fact, I’m kind of weepy now after writing this and want to run up and cuddle you, but I know you are fast asleep from your big day. I already look forward to being greeted by your happy dance in the morning.
Until the next letter, my little ham…Love you.
Kisses,
Mama

These letters get me choked up every time! Such a beautiful idea. I like to think I’ll do this with my kids one day. Karina is such an amazing little babe. So calm and content and then so smiley when you talk to her! I love her smiles. They make my heart beam
Oh, it’s so sweet. I am certain that Karina would be happy to read this letter as soon as she learns to read and even happier when she grows a bit older. And now it’s just melting me into a puddle.
