My happy place is in Northern Michigan.
Where water can be found everywhere, and looks beautiful and peaceful, despite cold weather.
And people have time for breakfast at one-of-a-kind places where the locals greet you with kindness.
(But if you don’t finish your breakfast, you have to wear a dog hat until you pay your bill…and you get put on their Facebook page.)
It’s a place where family and friends gather. Or, meet for the very first time.
And family photos are snapped in a not-so-perfect manner.
It’s a place where bonds are formed over too much food, too many cocktails, pontoon rides and cool night bonfires.
Oh, the beauty of the north!
Where is your happy place?

This is a sweet post! I loved the “meeting for the first time” photo!
My happy place has always been southeast VA – born and raised here, and have never wanted to live anywhere else.
Thanks for sharing your happy place!
I don’t blame you – SE VA is absolutely stunning…I know this especially because I am always jealous of the amazing photos you post 🙂
Nice post. It’s always great to be able to live somewhere where you enjoy and makes you happy. I guess living in MD is my happy place, especially if it is no more than 15 minutes from my parents so I can always go to my childhood home:)
Aww, that’s awesome! I briefly drove through Maryland last spring and my husband and I both thought the people there were so nice.
Up North is my happy place as well 🙂
Love how you capitalize Up North 😉 It’s so beautiful, isn’t it?
Northern Michigan sure is beautiful – my mom was born there, and I’ve visited there a couple of times. But my ‘happy place’ is Washington State – where I was born and raised. I can’t wait to move back there!! 🙂
Loved all the pictures – you sporting that doggy hat made me giggle! 😉

That’s cool your mom lived in Michigan. I have family in Washington state (outside Seattle) and visited once. I love the pacific west and would like to make a return trip one day. So pretty and SO green!
I couldn’t agree more! I love northern MI – Traverse City, driving on M-22, staying at The Homestead, Sleeping Bear Dunes…I could go on and on. Definitely my happy place, too!
Ahhhh, yes, I love all those places too! I just checked out M22 for the first time a few years ago and it WAS as gorgeous as everyone says!
Both the dog hat and sun bonnet are really wonderful. This truly looks like a wonderful place to be.
It was a lot of fun 🙂
Love those shades!
Thanks! We had to get the velcro kind because she pulls the other ones off her face!
I saw you at Stacy uncorked and hopped over. I don’t see where to follow you. Let me know and I will come back. Have a great evening.
Thanks, Tom. I’m still figuring out WordPress.com…not sure if I can make a followers section, but I’ll dig in a little more…
I love this. It reminds me of the same type of feelings that I have for northern Minnesota. There is such a nostalgia to be found.
I bet northern Minnesota is just beautiful too and has lots of character!
What cute pics. I love the dog hat you had to wear for not finishing your breakfast.
Yes, it was lovely… 😉 It was either that or stand up and howl. I opted for the quieter route!
