If you follow me on Twitter, you may have seen me tweeting up a storm with the hash tag #MittenMoms. That’s because I had the opportunity to go to the small mom blogging conference right here in Michigan! The kind folks at the United Dairy Industry of Michigan sponsored me to go, so I got to be what I was calling a “dairy fairy” and handing out fun coupons on their behalf. Seriously, bringing people happiness was so much fun! Plus, who doesn’t need milk?
Conference organizers Becky, aka Week99er and Shawn Ann of Shawn Ann’s World rockin’ their milk coupons.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to stay for the entire conference {it was my hubby’s 30th birthday bash Saturday eve}, but I really enjoyed my time on Friday and Saturday morning.
The conference kicked off with awesome presentations from Carhartt, Verizon Midwest // Identity Public Relations, The Henry Ford/Greenfield Village, Molly Mason {branding} and Week 99er {Pinterest for bloggers}. I loved all of the presentations, but of course my favorite part was connecting with so many like-minded women. Bloggers are truly the best!
The women I met were amazing. They are incredibly smart, socially savvy and business-minded. They gave me some great tips.
Pardon the blur…Someone didn’t have the right settings configured 😉 L to R: Jen of The Big Binder, me, Shawn Ann, Deb of Just Short of Crazy and Mallery of Horrible Housewife.
Also? I ate like a queen! Some bloggers and I ate at La Pita in Dearborn {authentic Middle Eastern cuisine}. I have heard awesome things about them for years…Now I understand why. Hands down the best chicken schwarma I’ve ever had!
Saturday morning I awoke early to the most delicious smells, too. The kind folks of the United Dairy Industry of Michigan sponsored a breakfast and had delicious food for us. Liz of The Lemon Bowl even showed us how to make some great recipes utilizing dairy. I seriously loved them all!
One of my favorites was the Cottage Cheese, Avocado and Tomato Toasts. Seriously, why have I never thought of that combo?!
Here’s the super simple recipe:
- 8 slices hearty, whole grain bread
- 2 cups cottage cheese-low fat
- 1 ripe avocado-sliced
- 1 tomato-sliced
- salt and pepper to taste
- Lay slices of bread out on a large cutting board and top each one with 1/4 cup of cottage cheese.
- Top cottage cheese with avocado and tomato slices then season with salt and pepper to taste.
BONUS FUN FACT: If you want to see if your milk products were made in Michigan, look for the number 26 following the expiration date! {I’ve found it on my milk, sour cream and cottage cheese!}
Thanks to the United Dairy Industry of Michigan for sponsoring me to attend this conference. I had a blast connecting with fab women and learning some great dairy recipes!
