October 1st may as well be a national holiday for our household: The Collector’s Edition BluRay/DVD of The Little Mermaid is coming out of the Disney vault and into the hearts of a new generation of little girls.
My little gals are ecstatic. We own the DVD {woohoo for a garage sale with it for $1}, but are SO looking forward to the slew of awesomeness that will be coming to stores everywhere following.
In fact, we got in on the mermaid magic a little early. As a special little gift, we headed to Walmart where Kinley picked out the cutest ever set of action figures that now come with us everywhere. I’m usually anti-plastic little toys, but let’s be real: Kids love them. And I have truly enjoyed watching Kinley play with them. She has a special place in her heart for Prince Eric already {oh lawd}, but also loves Ursula. One of her favorite songs is “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” but she is also partial to “Under The Sea.”

Since she is SUPER into crafts right now, I thought it would be fun to make a Little Mermaid craft — an “Under The Sea”-themed fish bowl using supplies we had at home. We had a ball! Playing with our new toys, putting together the craft, and of course having a dance party to The Little Mermaid soundtrack, made for one memorable morning for the two of us as Karina napped.
This craft is perfect for little mermaids and mermen ages two and up.
SUPPLIES:
- Paper plates
- Construction paper
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Tape and/or a stapler
- Markers/crayons
- Stickers {I found all kinds of fun ones at Walmart}
- A gallon-sized clear plastic bag
DIRECTIONS
Cut the center circle out of a paper plate.
Use the circle to cut a circle with a piece of blue construction paper.
Glue the blue piece to a second paper plate in the center.
Decorate the outside and inside of the fish tank by using stickers, markers, or construction paper. Let your child use their imagination!
A job for mom: Using the back paper plate, cut the plastic bag to cover the bag. Staple or tape the plastic to the plate so it’s like glass for the tank.
Using a stapler or tape, attach the front of the tank.
Voila! Your own little Under the Sea fish tank! Kinley LOVES this craft. We’ve made all different types of fish tanks, but of course her favorite is with stickers from The Little Mermaid.
