There are so many fun things happening this month, it was hard to narrow down my list of ideas! I tried to pick a good variety of inexpensive/free things mixed with paid activities that sounded worth the $! Plan some FUN today 😀
Throughout November: FREE admission for grandparents at Impression 5 {Lansing} — We LOVE this place! Perfect for a wide age range. My toddler loves it, but so do big kids. Thanks for the tip, Kathie!
Nov. 1: Cranbrook Institute of Science {Bloomfield Hills} — Visit this gem for FREE after 5 p.m. on the first Friday of the month courtesy of the MASCO Corporation Foundation.
Nov. 2-30: The Sleeping Beauty at PuppetArt Detroit Puppet Theatre {Detroit} — This fairytale is performed as a classical marionette ballet, delivering magic without words. Geared toward children ages 7 and up. $10/adult, $5/child.
Nov. 2: $5 Day at The Henry Ford {Dearborn} — $5 admission per venue: Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village, Ford Rouge Factory Tour or a traditional IMAX movie (except AVATAR) included. $5/person/venue. $5 for parking.
Nov. 2: Home Depot Kids Workshop {Nationwide} — Come build an adorable tabletop ship! Recommended for kids ages 5-12. Pre-registration encouraged. FREE.
Nov. 9: Dino-Stories at the Sloan Museum {Flint} — Enjoy a dinosaur story time followed by a dinosaur-themed craft! Free with museum admission, which is $9/adult, $6 ages 3-11.
Nov. 9: Super Hero and Princess Party {Fraser} — Kids ages 3-8 are welcome to attend the city of Fraser’s first-ever Superhero and Princess Party. There will be games, a craft, lunch, some special visitors and a goody bag for each child. Residents: $10/kids, $5/adults; non-residents: $12/kids, $6/adults
Nov. 10: Tummys-Tween Expo {Novi} — The expo includes face painting, live characters, mommy makeovers, Mama-tinis, shopping, sweet stations, bounce houses, train rides, craft tables, belly painting, complimentary child care and more. Advance Tickets: $7/adults, $3/children, free for 3 and under.
Nov. 10: FREE admission to the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History {Detroit} — The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History opens its doors for FREE, thanks to Charter One Bank.
Nov. 12: $2 Tuesday at the Flint Children’s Museum {Flint} — Just $2 for admission on this day {usually $6}! We LOVE this museum. It’s perfect for the 1-5 age range.
Nov. 13-17: Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey present Dragons {Auburn Hills} — Come to the greatest show on earth! Tickets start at $15. {Be sure to enter my giveaway through Nov. 6 here, too!}
Nov. 14 – Dec. 31: Wayne County Lightfest {Westland} — Lightfest features more than 45 giant animated displays and more than one million lights and is the Midwest’s largest light show. The complete route is more than four miles of Hines Dr. Lights run from 7-10 p.m. Entry is $5 fee per vehicle.
Nov. 16: Lantern-Lit Full Moon Walk at the Leslie Science and Nature Center {Ann Arbor} — Take a stroll in the Black Pond Woods. Read poems on the way and make moon shadows; then warm up by a fire with hot cocoa and stories. Registration required. 6-7:30 p.m. $8/individual, $30/family
Nov. 17: Family Day at the MOCAD Museum of Contemporary Art {Detroit} — Find art everywhere in a program with video screenings, flip book making and interactive animation workshop is great for all ages. Register in advance. FREE.
Nov. 22: Target Family Day at The Henry Ford {Dearborn} — Admission is FREE at the Henry Ford Museum for the entire family. Enjoy hands-on activities and entertainment. FREE parking too!!!
Nov. 22: Dinosaur Train Live! at the Fox Theatre {Detroit} — Join Buddy, Tiny, Shiny, Don and all their friends as they go on an adventure. Tickets range from $17.50-$32.50.
Nov. 22: Detroit Christmas Tree Lighting in Campus Martius {Detroit} — Such a beautiful and FREE event! 5 p.m. – Midnight. Expect to pay parking fees.
Nov. 22: Silver Bells in the City {Lansing} — The premiere holiday event for the state of Michigan, which includes the lighting of Michigan’s official Christmas tree and a fireworks show over the State Capitol. 5- 9 p.m. FREE.
Nov. 23: DSO Tiny Tots Concert: Dr. Seuss Jazz Music at Orchestra Hall {Detroit} — Explore the rhyming and rhythm of Dr. Seuss through the world of jazz music — just for toddlers! $13/ticket, 3 and under free.
Nov. 23: Kids Are Chefs, Too! Warm Winter Spices at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens {Ann Arbor} — Shorter, cooler days put us in the mood for food and drinks that make us feel warm inside. With our spices from around the world you can create your own signature apple sauce, pumpkin pie filling, and stuffing. 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. $8/child.
Nov. 23-Jan. 5 {Weekends}: Wild Lights at the Detroit Zoo {Royal Oak} — A million-plus LED lights cover trees, buildings and animal sculptures. Live entertainment, arts, crafts, ice carving and holiday train displays, too. $8 in advance, $10 at the door, children 2 and under free. $5 for parking.
Nov. 28: America’s Thanksgiving Day Parade {Detroit} — Rockin’ parade along Woodward Avenue complete with floats, giant balloons, and Santa! Parade starts at 8:45 a.m. at Woodward Avenue and Kirby Street and ends at Campus Martius Park. $35-$50 for advance tickets/grandstand seating, or FREE for general admission. Expect to pay parking fees as well.
Nov. 29: Fantasy of Lights Parade {Howell} — Festive nighttime parade in downtown Howell with each float illuminated with a minimum of 5,000 holiday lights. Entertainment and activities such as cookie decorating, visits with Santa, live reindeer and music begin at 4 p.m. The parade kicks off at 7 p.m. FREE.
Nov. 29-Dec. 29: Wonderland of Lights in Potter Park Zoo {Lansing} — Potter Park Zoo is transformed into a magical winter wonderland with thousands of holiday lights and extraordinary displays Thursdays-Sundays 5-8 p.m. Adults are $2/person, children ages 3-12 are $1 and children 3 and under are free.
Nov. 29-Dec. 1: The Nutcracker at The Detroit Opera House {Detroit} — Journey to the land of the Sugar Plum Fairy as, by popular demand, one of the nation’s most respected dance companies returns to the Detroit Opera House with their enchanting interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s magical holiday classic. Tickets range from $25-$65.
Nov. 29-Dec. 15 {Weekends}: Holly Dickens Festival {Holly} — Step back in time as you stroll the streets, visit the shops, pubs and eateries in quaint downtown Holly, getting caught up in the story of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. {Such an adorable downtown!} FREE.
Nov. 30: Home Depot Kids Workshop {Nationwide} — Come build a small toolbox — perfect for holiday gifting! Recommended for kids ages 5-12. Pre-registration encouraged. FREE.
Nov. 30: Fossils at Longway Planetarium {Flint} — Make your own fossil model while learning how fossils form. Create art and take home real fossil specimens! For ages 8-12. Reservation required. $10/child.
