There are few traditions as deeply rooted in Michigan as America’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in Detroit.
As a little girl, I have fond memories of waking up each Thanksgiving morning to watch the parade, getting excited as I saw a floating Elmo or Big Bird go by, and anxiously awaiting the arrival of the big man in red.
As a teenager, I attended the parade on a few occasions and always had a blast watching the floats, interacting with the fun clowns, and nabbing breakfast at a downtown restaurant after.
As a parent, I look forward to the day I can take my kids down to the parade so they too can be mesmerized by the lights and beautiful floats.
Absopure {yes, the water people} is a Michigan-based company that also has deep roots with this beloved tradition. For nearly 20 years, they have provided water to parade marchers, volunteers, Turkey Trotters and event staff.
While you watch the parade, be sure to keep your eye out for the company’s classic Model T delivery truck. It will be leading the way during the Model T section of the parade, and is driven by third-generation owner, William Patrick Young. The vintage Ford Model T was the first automobile used to deliver Absopure bottled water the year it was founded in 1908. How cool is that?

I haven’t been since I was 14 or so. I’d love to take the kid down, as he’s never been. I think he’s at a good age to really enjoy it.
Mrs. Weber says
For sure!! I am dying to take my kids, but definitely am going to wait a few more years since they can only handle cold/keep their mittens on for about 20 minutes. If you go, bundle up and have fun!!
Christa says
Yes – but it’s been years! My dad and another father would bring ladders, lay a carpet covered 2X6 in between them for their 4 girls could see the parade from higher up! Yeah….how spoiled were we???
Christa says
Oh and we are going to the parade company for the first time this saturday! Would love for my girls to then see the parade!!!

Such a great prize and I am so excited to work with you to promote this. Too bad we can’t win.. LOL.

Oooh, I hope I win! I have never been before and this would be so much fun!
Manda Ess says
I often wonder if I’m the only almost 40, Detroit native, that’s never been! Why didn’t my folks take me to this as a kid? So weird..I’ve traveled all around the country, mostly before I was 18, but was stuck watching the parade on TV (which is still great, don’t get me wrong!) And honestly this is the first year it crossed my mind….like… “wow..we should go to the parade!” Cuz I can be such a flake sometimes, lol. This problem will also probably cause me to forget to come back and enter every day. The irony! I hope whoever wins has a great time! 🙂 ♡
Mrs. Weber says
Well, Manda, regardless of winning, you should go! It’s a blast! Just get some toe/hand warmers and some long under ware this year 😉
