I admit it: I’m a bit of an organization nut. I mean, I function in chaos 99% of the time corralling three little ones, so when things are actually in my control? I kind of love it. I recently read an article showing how clutter can be linked to depression, especially among women. It went as far as to say:
Women associate a tidy home with a happy and successful family. The more dishes that pile up in the sink, the more anxious women feel.
I can absolutely vouch. My entire life just runs smoother when my house is clean and organized. My house isn’t remotely perfect, but I strive to have a picked up house {after the kids go to bed} – it truly helps me to relax and be able to focus as a work-from-home mom. I always joke that I wish we had visitors between the hours of 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. because that’s the only time our house doesn’t have toys everywhere!
So, I basically love spring cleaning, and having an excuse to purge. To make it manageable, I break it up between each room and do a little each day once a quarter.
One area I need to keep up with for my sanity is our bathroom, which always seems to accumulate things. I finally broke down and created a system that has worked very well for us during the past few years. So here’s my quick 5 easy steps to spring clean your bathroom:
1. Sort small items that seem to collect quickly in clear, plastic bins. Sure, wicker looks nice, but being spill proof and clear so items are easy to spot is crucial.
The bins I have: All things dental, surplus lotions/mini shampoos for traveling, adult medicines, kid medicines and first aid. I always make sure to look at expiration dates and toss what has gone bad. And the kid medicine one is crucial when you’re stumbling around in the middle of the night looking for a way to heal a crying baby.
2. Go through your nail polish and toss out the junk. As much as I love to hang onto the nail polish I’ve had for 5+ years, it just doesn’t go on right – period. {Loving the new Sally Hansen gel colors as a busy mom — it doesn’t chip instantly like most brands!}
3. Organize cleaning supplies under the sink. A trick I recently learned is to use an old Kleenex box for plastic bags to use as trash can liners. Genius! I breathed relief at this one because plastic bags everywhere drives me crazy.
4. Toss out old hair and make-up products. I use plastic totes and zip-up cases for my make-up, hair accessories and hair products. I always seem to accumulate a ton of excess in both areas, so my rule of thumb is to toss it if I haven’t used it in a year. If it’s unopened, I keep it and donate it to a local women’s shelter if it still has life left.
5. Organize items you need to keep out in a fun way. I try to keep the counter clutter-free, but part of my resolution has been to take better care of my skin, so I keep those items on the counter so I don’t forget to use them. I found a silver tray at Salvation Army for $1 and I love how it makes my go-to skin items look pretty! Seeing them reminds me to keep up with my skin care regime. {Loving Loreal’s new Revitalift system for skin – it has made my face SO soft!}
These are just a few of my simple tricks I follow. I’d love to hear how you keep your bathroom organized in the comments 😀

Ah that’s smart with the Kleenex box! My mom has a thing I call a “boinga boinga,” lol (a thing where you can store plastic bags, made of coils) and I can’t find them ANYWHERE, so mine just sit under my kitchen sink.
This is also means i need to throw out most of my nail polishes :-/.

For mine under my kitchen sink, I have a large glass jar I stuff them into. Keeps the space nice and tidy! IKEA also sells bag holders, but they require being attached to a wall.
I hear you on the nail polishes…I collect them like crazy! But they just don’t work as well if they have been sitting :/
