We can finally say it — spring is now officially here! Despite some chillier temps, I’ve pretty much been coatless since we hit 40 degrees. Extended play time outdoors has been sorely missed these past few months!
I have a few goals this spring, and cleaning and finishing some home projects is definitely one of them. Every year I like to make a list of those pesky little projects always in the back of my mind and chip away at them leading up to summer fun and vacations. Here are some of my ideas for this year.
16 Tips for A Spring Refresh
Purge closets. Go through closets and place items that are no longer needed into a donate bin, or set aside for friends that may be able to use the items. Non-profits like Salvation Army and Goodwill take ripped and stained clothing, so please consider donating! You’ll get a tax deduction and they will recycle them if they can’t use them.
Clean cupboards. Go through junk drawers and toss what isn’t needed, and recycle what you can. Additionally, check expiration dates on pantry items and toss what isn’t usable, and wipe out utensil drawers, which surprisingly seem to accumulate all kinds of yuck.
Refresh the front porch. Check out little garden goodies for the porch to add a pop of color.
Aren’t these little fairy houses fun? These would be cute in a big planter pit while awaiting warm weather flowers.
Swap out photo frames. Change up photos inside frames to either match the season, or just keep up with growing kids as much as possible.
Move furniture around. This is simple way to make the house feel new!
Have an at-home spa day. Grab a new bottle of nail polish, an inexpensive face mask and new razors/shaving cream and have a relaxing evening after the kids are in bed getting your body ready for spring fun.
Treat yourself to a new spring outfit. And shoes. Bright colors and fun airy fabrics seem to be all the rage this spring.
I was excited to take advantage of some Meijer sales recently to get a fun, whimsical outfit for spring festivities. My favorite find were some sparkly sneakers from the clearance section!
Toy cleanse. Have the kids go through and put away some toys they no longer need, and set them aside to donate or for a future garage sale. Additionally, throw all those LEGOs and plastic figurines in the tub for a bath. Some dish soap, hot water and an old toothbrush for scrubbing should do the trick.
Nix old medicines and organize bathroom items. Toss out expired medicines, old nail polish bottles and make-up, and organize items as needed. I like to place all of our items in clear bins so I can easily find things. See more bathroom tips here.
Clean the awkward spaces. When is the last time you cleaned behind the washer/dryer, inside and underneath the oven or behind the fridge? Spring is a good time for a new clean slate. {I personally love Murphy’s Oil Soap for cleaning my floors and Method’s All-Purpose cleaner for just about everywhere else.}
Clean the garage. It’s amazing what a Michigan winter does to a garage! Ours is always full of dirt, leaves and salt. A good sweep, some re-organizing, and a power wash on a warmer day is an easy way to make you feel great about coming home.
This kid loves to help, though he may be a little overly ambitious at times 😉
Organize tech toys. We all seem to accumulate tons of items with cords, batteries, etc. Use a bin to store these items and regularly try to set aside what we don’t need. Many electronic recycling events happening in the spring, so keep an eye out so you can dispose of them properly.
Refresh vehicles. Make sure all car maintenance is updated, and give vehicles baths and a good cleaning. We love car wipes to wipe down dashboard and van running boards.
Swap out scents. Spring means swapping out winter-inspired candle and room freshner scents in favor of scents like lilac blooms and fresh cotton.
Load up on greenery. Fresh flowers for indoors {Easter lilys, daffodils and tulips, especially} are perfect for spring. Succulents are my personal favorite low-maintenance plants.
Open the windows. This is by far my favorite way to get some spring inside our home. It’s amazing how a little fresh air takes the stink right out!

A few additional tips:
- Be on the lookout for great weekend coupons. I love the Friday/Saturday coupon for 5% off groceries, 10% off general merchandise and 15% off apparel.
- Shop for the season. This time of year is chock full of coupons for spring sports, allergy medications, Easter items and spring cleaning supplies. Always check your mPerks account before shopping.
What are your favorite things to do for a spring refresh?
Liz @ Yes/No Films says
I sorely need to clean out my closets … I’m hopefully going to be moving in a few months to a house or condo so this would be the ideal time to do this.
Also, I definitely took advantage of the 15% off clothing at Meijer this weekend! They were doing 25% off womens clothing too. I got a pair of jeans and a tank top for about $21 total :).

Moving truly is awesome for downsizing and decluttering! And yay for finding some good deals. I bought a ton of random stuff we needed with the coupons 🙂

I have so much love for this post. I do some of these and will try the others now that I’ve read them. Moving furniture is a great idea. I also love the feeling of new fresh spring outfit and shoes. Getting my hair cut works too. it’s like cutting the winter blues right off.
Mrs. Weber says
Oh, good call on the hair! I am thinking about lightening my hair a bit this summer. We shall see!

My car needs a good cleaning so bad. It needs vacuuming and the windows need cleaning on the inside. This is a great list…thanks! Love the picture of your son helping to clean the garage.

All of these are some great ideas of spring cleaning. I do most of these except never thought about cleaning behind the washer and dryer. I am going to use this list and work on a lot of these this weekend.
Hannah says
Great tips! I actually moved the furniture in my house about three times this weekend (and most of it ended up back where it started), but I liked trying out new arrangements.

We just donated six bags of clothes, toys and misc items to The Salvation Army thrift store. The spring cleaning has begun!

All great tips, especially checking mPerks. I save so much money with the meijer app! I love your shoes!

I will be getting our bedspread drycleaned as soon as it gets a little warmer. I also read that you should replace all of your pillows and since John is allergic to dust it might help him during allergy season.
Mrs. Weber says
Oh, that is an awesome tip. I’m also allergic to dust. Never thought about my pillow!

There’s nothing like airing out your home, especially after it rains. I love your list by the way. I would add 2 things. Get a hanging basket, fill it with annuals, and put it up by your door. Also now is a good time to clean out your gutters to protect your roof.
