I’ve talked about my love for Sloan Museum in Flint in the past. I adore this gem located on the Flint Cultural Center Campus. It’s never terribly busy, they have amazing traveling exhibits that rotate often, and best of all — it’s manageable with kids.
If you’d like more reasons to visit Sloan*Longway in Flint, here’s 10 more:
Easy and free parking. The cultural center has plenty of free parking surrounding each of the buildings. The Sloan Museum lot is the lot directly in front.
Giant bugs. Need I say more? The “A Bug’s World” special exhibit is a neat way to learn more about bugs, and feel like you’re in the movie Honey I Shrunk the Kids. The animatronic bugs are perfect for fun photo ops, and will be on display through September 4. Learn more here.
Family Fun Night. {Saturday, July 23, 5:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.} Bring the family out for a night of games and fun, including tic tac toe in the courtyard and Candyland inside the building. Each ticket also includes a piece of pizza and a drink. $8/adults, $6/children.
Critters, Crafts and Story Time. {July 2 and August 6} These special events will feature a different story and activity surrounding bugs. Advance registration required.
Yogarilla on the Lawn. {July 7 and August 11} Grab your Jungle Towel and bring your age 9-12 year old child out for Yogarilla on the Lawn. Explore stations that teach your young one a different yoga pose and allow them to exercise and have fun at the same time. A small snack will be provided. Advance registration required. $15/child.
Wisner’s Whizbang Emporium. This area is so perfect for the 10 and under crowd. There’s a mini kitchen and grocery store, and even a real ambulance the kids can climb in. It’s a magical little space, and it’s easy to spend lots of time here! Learn more here.
A rockin’ planetarium. The Longway Planetarium is just a short walk from the museum, and is Michigan’s largest star-gazing facility. The facility was just renovated and it’s beautiful! There are different shows each day, geared toward a range of ages and interests. {The Accidental Astronauts is recommended for the younger crowd, while I think Dark Side: The Light Show would be cool for a date night.}
Camps and special events just for kids {starting at age 4}. Sloan has plenty of fun camps and special events geared toward kids. Check out the interactive guide to see what your child may be interested in, and register in advance.
Cool cars. The Buick Gallery is also located on the Cultural Center Campus and features plenty of sweet cars for those who love vehicles from all eras. If you love classic cars, make sure to check out the Sloan Auto Fair June 25-26, too!
Affordable tickets for an entire day of entertainment. If you purchase a combo ticket, you can get access to Sloan, the Buick Gallery and Longway Planetarium. This is a great option for older kids and adults. There is a beautiful courtyard to enjoy a picnic, or you can eat inside the Halfway Cafe in Sloan {bring your own food}.
Combo admission: Adults $14 | Senior (60+) $12 | Youth (2-11) $9 | Child (1 & Under) Free | ASTC Reciprocal Members – $6 for planetarium show and admission to the museums

As a side note: If you’re looking for a cool lunch option, try the Flint Crepe Cafe. It’s a mile away, and is delicious, and has a cute little outdoor seating area.
