I received tickets to Day Out With Thomas in exchange for promoting the event. All opinions expressed are my own.
Bust my bumpers! Day Out With Thomas has officially rolled into Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad in Flint for the next two weekends.
This annual event is a favorite for local families, and for a good reason. It’s a blast!
First, if you’ve never been to Crossroads Village, GO! It’s definitely a top spot to visit in Flint, Michigan. The grounds are gorgeous and filled with historic buildings, but is interesting for kids of all ages. It’s clean, easy to navigate, and there are plenty of bathrooms {and even baby changing/nursing stations} throughout the park.
When you purchase Day Out With Thomas tickets, you not only get a 45-minute train ride experience, but you also get access to the village and the many fun spots set-up throughout.
I want families to know that it’s not just about a train ride — there is tons to do around the village!
10 Things To See At Day Out With Thomas at Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad:
Magic Shows
Visit the Cowell Opera House for various magic shows throughout the day.
Farm Animals
Check out the cows, horses, chickens and more at the farm.
Live Music
Go to the Salter Farm for performances. The Down on The Farm music we heard was fun and interactive for kids.
Straw Maze and Sensory Play
The straw maze is perfect for little ones to explore and use their brain to navigate. My kids also loved playing with kinetic sand and Bob the Builder trucks!
Imagination Station
Visit this area for fun with bubbles galore, coloring pages, hat making and more.
Meet & Greets
Both Sir Topham Hatt and Bob the Builder are available to meet if your children enjoy characters. Various times throughout the day.
Temporary Tattoos
Temporary tattoos are available for free near the Parker Carousel and are a fun way to sport your favorite Thomas train.
Inflatables
There are two Thomas inspired inflatables to explore — all included in the ticket price!
Historic Rides
Visit the back corner for some really neat vintage rides. Tickets are 4 for $4 or $1.25 each. The carousel, built in 1912, is especially beautiful. My kids loved playing engineers on the Mott Lake Flyer Miniature Train while I loved these Venetian Swings.
History Lessons Galore
My kids loved visiting the old school house, broom shop, barber shop and more located on the grounds. The perfect opportunity for learning and the docents are friendly.
Additional Tips:
- Pack a picnic. There are spots throughout for food, but if you want to save some money, pack a picnic! So many shady spots and tables throughout. You can always grab a treat after.
- My oldest {just shy of 6} walked the entire time. If you have a child that wears out easily, bring a stroller. I was glad we had an umbrella stroller to use between my 2 and 4-year-olds.
- The gates open at 9 a.m. with FREE parking, so plan to spend some time there. We arrived 2 hours before our ride so we had time to park first, use the restroom and eat lunch before our train departed.
- The line loads the train from the back to the front, so if you’d like to be in the front, wait to get on.
- If your child has noise sensitivities, bring noise-cancelling headphones. The train’s horn was upsetting to my gal with sensory processing issues, so I had my hands over her ears the entire ride.
- If your child owns Thomas gear, wear it! There’s nothing cuter than seeing all the kids exploring in their conductor ensembles.
Day Out With Thomas continues this weekend through Sunday and will also run next weekend, August 26-28.

Enjoy if you attend!
This looks like so much fun. Wasn’t this event at Henry Ford at one point? My aunt got married in Crossroads Village.
Yes! It’s at Greenfield Village in the spring. Both are a blast! Crossroads Village is so beautiful — what a cool spot to get married!
My daughter is past the Thomas age, but we’ve been looking at a visit to Crossroads Village soon. Looks like it would be beautiful in Fall, plus we go to Frankenmuth often.
You should definitely check out their Halloween event — it’s SO fun and the perfect way to see the village!
Looks like so much fun there. We haven’t been able to attend a Day out with Thomas in a couple of years. I know the boys would have loved being at Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad to see him again.
Day out with Thomas at Greenfield Village was always one of our most favorite things to do with the kid when he was younger. Because of it, he also learned to love the historical buildings there as well.
Love your pics! We didn’t get to play with the kinetic sand since my son was reaching the naptime tantrums. Lol. We will definitely be going again next year. It looks like your kids had such a great time.
I totally know that feeling! We crammed in a lot, but mine were ready to go home after the train ride 🙂
This sounds like a fun event for little kids. The farm animals are so cute!
We went to the one in Greenfield Village when my girls were smaller. Oh, my your kids are cute. I miss that cute baby chub. Enjoy!!!
A truly amazing place for the whole family to visit. How I wish we can plan a trip there too, soon!
I haven’t been there in ages, I totally need to take the girls! The train ride sounds so fun–I bet I would be covering Maddie’s ears the whole time too.
