Olga’s Kitchen is one of those restaurants I grew-up going to and have many fond memories of. I remember always celebrating a successful back-to-school shopping trip with my mom with an orange cream cooler and a three cheese Olga. Now, the tradition continues as my children get to experience their own Olga favorites — snackers with Swiss almond cheese and the amazing “Birmingham’s best brownie” for dessert.
For anyone in metro Detroit, Olga’s is a household name. The company made its success thanks to its signature, grilled-to-order, secret recipe Olga Bread, which can be found paired with the majority of menu items.
The restaurant chain went bankrupt in late 2015, leaving so many of us terrified for what the future of Olga’s may be. Thankfully, they were purchased by the successful restaurant group, TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants, and have been on the up-and-up ever since.
I’m beyond thrilled to see they are making the brand even better by bringing back the recipes we grew-up with and reinstating a commitment to high quality ingredients and locally-sourced products where possible.
I mean, that Olgasauce…YUM.
In addition to the menu re-vamp, all locations will undergo renovations during the next four years, with plans to open eight to ten new restaurants in the near future, too.
The first of its redesigned restaurants opened in Monroe, Mich. this past August, unveiling the new look, and future, of the Olga’s Kitchen brand, along with a renewed commitment to the brand’s 46-year legacy.
I recently was able to visit the newest location in Ann Arbor {3500 Washtenaw Ave.}, and I have to say, the new look is fantastic. I love that it incorporates elements from the 70’s {i.e. burnt orange}, but has a more modern appeal, and even pays homage to its “born and bread” in Detroit roots.
