There’s nothing quite like the magic of the first snow of the year. My girls are at the age that they beg for snow — they love it and care less that it generally brings freezing temperatures.
We aim to get in a little outdoor play daily, but sometimes we can only last so long. That’s when we bring the snow inside!
We love snow ‘painting’ for an activity to keep little hands occupied. It’s less mess than painting, and it’s a wonderful sensory activity. After, my kids like to watch the snow melt in our sink with hot water.
What You Need:
- Crafting tablecloth in case of spills, which will happen!
- Paint brushes
- Food coloring in water
- Shallow containers for snow {the ones from our kinetic sand kits worked great!}
- Snow
This set of spill-proof containers and brushes from Amazon looks fantastic! {I am an affiliate and get paid commission for a portion of sale} Love the colors! We use our set all.the.time.
To make the “paint,” just mix a couple of drops of food coloring into water and let the kids go to town with brushes.
My kindergarter loved mixing the food coloring together to create new colors. Her snow paintings tend to be very artsy…She was making a rainbow of course.
My preschooler focused on making shapes.
My toddler just went crazy, period…and loved it! Finally paint I don’t have to watch him like a hawk with 😉 He was thrilled to be doing the same thing as his big sisters.
Such a fun activity for a typically boring day, and best of all — minimal clean-up!
