There are many places I love to take my kids, and Impression 5 in Lansing, Michigan is definitely up there in my top five destinations for families around southeast Michigan. It’s SO fun, affordable, and well worth a day trip. We always have a blast visiting, and there is always something new to take in and keep it interesting.
The current special exhibit {through May 7, 2017} features Curious George and it’s so adorable for many ages. I took my oldest daughter to see this a few years back at Sloan Museum and she had a blast, so I was pumped to take my 4-year-old and 2-year-old too. My 2-year-old loves George, so this was like a trip to Disney World 😉
ABOUT THE EXHIBIT
The traveling exhibit, formally called Curious George: Let’s Get Curious!, will introduce young children to Curious George’s world and lead visitors on a fun, meaningful interactive math, science and engineering-based adventure.
Based on the familiar characters in H.A. and Margret Rey’s classic stories, the exhibit explores STEM concepts through hands-on interactive play. Immerse yourself in the neighborhood where Curious George lives with his friend, The Man with the Yellow Hat, and explore the world of Curious George, with all the familiar characters and places featured in the classic stories and the television series on PBS KIDS®.
Operate wheels to help George climb a building, sort and weigh fruits and vegetables at the produce stand, use science skills to putt a hole of mini golf, climb the rocket from George’s space adventure, and much more. It’s all adorable and photo-worthy, especially if you have a George fan in the house!
From an adult perspective, I was super intrigued by the story of H.A. and Margret Rey, the husband/wife duo who wrote and illustrated the series. They were Jewish and fled Paris from the Nazis on self-made bicycles in June 1940 before it fell, carrying the Curious George manuscript with them.
Doesn’t that make the importance of this series even more significant? I’m honestly surprised it hasn’t been made into a movie yet! I definitely want to learn more about them.
Overall, Impression 5 is an amazing destination for ALL ages, and the Curious George exhibit is the perfect reason to go again if it has been awhile for your family. Definitely plan a visit, and don’t forget to visit all the amazing other exhibits while there. Learn 13 more reasons to visit Impression 5 here.

NEARBY SPOTS TO EAT
There is a lunch area at the museum if you’d like to pack a lunch to enjoy there. However, if you’d like to explore Lansing for some grub, a few of my favorite spots within a few miles of Impression 5 include:
- Soup Spoon Café
- Weston’s Kewpee Burger {historic spot with amazing olive burgers and malts}
- Lansing Brewing Company {during the day it’s kid-friendly – no worries}
Additional places to go around Lansing with kids can be found at this post.
Make sure to follow Impression 5 on Facebook and Twitter for more info and have a blast if you go!

Be sure to check out Mother and Earth baby boutique, just 5mins in Old Town too. Such a great shop for “to be moms” or new moms. We did their Mother and Son Breakfast waffle bar and then headed over to Impression 5. It was a great Date Day for my son and I.
