There is nothing that screams SUMMER quite like a baseball game, right?
Fortunately for us, there are a few options other than just the neighborhood kid’s little league game. In southeast Michigan, we have a few choices for watching ball — the Detroit Tigers, the United Shore Professional Baseball League in Utica and the Lansing Lugnuts.
We try to make at least one game each summer with the kids. For the past few years, it has been for the Lugnuts because it’s super affordable, and I love having the excuse to visit our capitol city. Cooley Law School Stadium is really clean and set-up well for families, too.
During the season, the Lugnuts, a minor league team, have plenty of fun events, including Thirsty Thursday, Dollar Deal Days and fireworks. For kids, we enjoy the Delta Dental Kids Day events, which include character visits. Last year we were able to meet a Ninja Turtle, and my little man was obsessed with following him around!
This year is bringing even more family fun, and I wanted to share the best events for kiddos. Seeing a ‘Nuts game truly is the perfect summer outing for families!

Other Family Fun at Cooley Law School Stadium:
In addition to the actual game, there is plenty of fun around the stadium for antsy kids, including a kid’s bounce area {it does have a small fee – $2 last time we were there and required socks}, a playground, games, and fun cut-outs. And don’t forget to stop for some good ole fashion baseball treats, too!
One of my kids favorite things to do is run the bases after the game. What a cool experience for kids — plus, gotta love getting some energy out before climbing back in the car 😉
Tickets, Parking and Tips:
Individual Game Ticket Prices are as follows:
- The Clubhouse: $25 ($26 day of game)
- Executive Box: $14 ($15 day of game)
- Box: $11 ($12 day of game)
- Bleacher: $10 ($11 day of game)
- General Admission (lawn): $8 ($9 day of game)
- Barrier-Free/Wheelchair Accessible – Lower Level: $11 ($12 day of game)
- Barrier-Free/Wheelchair Accessible – Upper Level: $11 ($12 day of game)
We’ve always nabbed the executive box seats so we could sit just rows from the field. Being close with kids is crucial to keep them interested! I wouldn’t mind going on a date with the hubby and splurging on The Clubhouse tickets, which get you easy bar access and food.
Parking is really easy around the stadium, and we’ve been lucky to always find free or very inexpensive street parking across the street.
Nearby Places To Eat:
A few of my favorite spots within a few miles of Cooley Law School Stadium include:
- Soup Spoon Café
- Weston’s Kewpee Burger {historic spot with amazing olive burgers and malts}
- Lansing Brewing Company {during the day it’s kid-friendly – no worries}
Additional places to go around Lansing with kids can be found at this post.
Have you been to a Lugnuts Game? Which night sounds like fun to you?
What a thorough and helpful list of suggestions for a family visit to this ballpark. I’ve driven by the stadium numerous times while in Lansing but haven’t been to a game yet. I’ll have to check out to see if they have any peanut free or restricted games for a family outing. Food allergies have really put a damper on us being able to go to see live baseball games as a family. You don’t realize how littered ballparks are with peanut shells until it becomes a life or death matter.
Wow, Tim — I never thought about that. Food allergies sure are terrifying 🙁 I think it would be an awesome idea to have a nut-free night. I hope the Lugnuts see this post and do something 🙂
