I attended a media preview for this new exhibit at Impression 5. All opinions belong to me.
“Mom, why is it called Impression 5?” – my 6-year-old.
In case you aren’t familiar with the reason either, Impression 5 Science Center in Lansing is all about encouraging visitors to explore and make meaningful connections to science using all five senses. Great name, right?!
I’ve blogged about Impression 5 many times and why there are plenty of reasons to love this interactive science center geared toward kids, ages 0-10.
They recently added a new permanent exhibit space, FLOW: A Water Experience, and it’s just one more reason to fall in love with this place and use those senses!
All About FLOW: A Water Experience
From a giant flywheel jet to a vortex tank you can control, visitors can explore two stories of interactive water components affecting fluid dynamics. With water tables at varying levels for children of all ages, FLOW truly has something for all, and is a great space to spend a little time while visiting center.
Kids will enjoy exploring the space, and maybe getting a little wet in the process. Thankfully, they thought ahead to provide ponchos. If your child really loves the water, it may not hurt to bring an extra shirt just in case 😉
FLOW is just one of the major steps toward a complete reinvention process that started over a decade ago in downtown Lansing. The new exhibit space opening represents an investment in the science center and greater Lansing’s children that will add to the capacity, physical space and exhibits at Impression 5.
The opening of the new space and water exhibit, FLOW: A Water Experience ensures the guest experience is consistent with Impression 5’s Play-Create-Challenge educational philosophy and programs.
My kids really enjoyed this exhibit and easily could’ve spent a ton of time here. Our family loves that Impression 5 is always giving us new reasons to visit. I highly recommend checking out this new exhibit for some summer fun!
Cost
Entry to Impression 5 is $8.50 for adults, $7 for seniors, and $8.50 for children ages 2 and up. Age 1 and under are free. For extra savings, make sure to check out the membership options, which are affordable and offer reciprocal benefits to select museums across the state and country.
Food Options When Visiting
There is a lunch area at the museum if you’d like to pack a lunch to enjoy there. However, if you’d like to explore Lansing for some grub, a few of my favorite spots within a few miles of Impression 5 include:
- Soup Spoon Café
- Weston’s Kewpee Burger {historic spot with amazing olive burgers and malts}
- Lansing Brewing Company {during the day it’s kid-friendly}
Additional places to go around Lansing with kids can be found at this post.
Make sure to follow Impression 5 on Facebook and Twitter for more info and have a blast if you go!
This looks fun for kids!
