March is going to ROCK. This month brings Reading Month, International Women’s Day, Pi Day, Daylight Saving Time, St. Patrick’s Day and the first day of spring. Talk about fun times ahead!

March 2 — READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY {Nationwide} — Check your local library for great events!
March 2 — Cranbrook Institute of Science {Bloomfield Hills} — Visit this gem for FREE after 5 p.m. on the first Friday of the month courtesy of the MASCO Corporation Foundation.
March 2 — Meet Daniel Tiger at the Oakland Mall {Troy} — Help Daniel Tiger celebrate Mr. Rogers 50th Anniversary from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. in Oakland Mall’s Center Court. Bring a new or gently used sweater to donate to a neighbor who doesn’t have one. FREE event.
March 3 — Celebrate Dr. Seuss at Target {Nationwide} — Select Target stores will be hosting a Dr. Seuss read-along. Join for story time with a big book version of Green Eggs and Ham and take home some freebies, like an activity book and a Dr. Seuss’s ABC poster with stickers. 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. FREE. {Check your store for details!}
March 3 — March Madness Sale at all Metro Detroit Salvation Army Thrift Store {All SE Michigan Stores} — Stop in for 50% off all clothing! This is the perfect sale to stock up for spring and summer.
March 3 — Families at The Broad {East Lansing} – Visit this East Lansing modern art museum from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. for hands-on activities and a family guided tour at 1 p.m. FREE thanks to Farm Bureau.
March 3 — Make Break at Michael’s {Nationwide} — Pop into Michael’s to paint a terra cotta pot. Buy the pot, get the supplies for free. 1-3 p.m.
March 3 — Michaels Kid Club {Nationwide} — Visit Michael’s to make paper flowers. Kids 3 and up can enjoy a quick project and take home a finished masterpiece. Sign up in store or online, or just drop in. $2-$5, supplies included. 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Learn more at my post here.
March 3 — Home Depot Kids Workshop {Nationwide} — Visit Home Depot to build a periscope. Workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills, tool safety and instill a sense of pride and accomplishment. Kids get to keep their craft, receive a certificate of achievement, a workshop apron, and a pin. 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. FREE. {Learn more here}
March 3, 10, 17, 24 — FREE Day at the Flint Institute of Art {Flint} — This museum is FREE to visit every Saturday thanks to First Merit Bank.
March 3-4, 10-11, 17-18, 24-25 — MJR Children’s Spring Festival {Various Locations} — Visit this post for the scoop on FREE children’s movies at participating locations.
March 6 & 7 — LEGO Monthly Build at Somerset Collection {Troy} — Build a LEGO® lamb model and take it home for FREE after! Must register in advance. This event is open to children ages 6-14 only.
March 7 at 11 a.m. & 17 at 10:30 a.m. — Young Explorers at Michigan Science Center {Detroit} — Visit Kids Town with children ages 2 – 5 for stories, science-themed activities and socialization time. Adult with one child is $10; additional children are $5. Children under two are free. March is all about eggs.
March 8 — INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY!
March 9-11 — Michigan Horse Expo {East Lansing} — The Michigan Horse Expo is one of the largest three-day equine expos in the country. Visit to see a rodeo, a mounted police demo and more. Adults {16+} are $15, children {6-15} are $5 and children 5 and under are free.

March 10 — Faerie Garden and Doors Workshop at Matthaei Botanical Garden {Ann Arbor} — Create magical faerie gardens from natural materials to invite faeries into your yard. Class fills quickly, pre-registration suggested. Two time slots available. $12/person.
March 10 — Oakland County St. Patrick’s Day Parade {Royal Oak} — Head to Royal Oak for St. Patty’s fun brought by the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Listen to bagpipe bands, watch Irish dancers, and more. 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. FREE to attend.
March 10 — Family Fun Day: Celebrate Reading {Howell} — Visit Parker Middle School from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. for an interactive stage show featuring The Merry Music Maker at 11:30 a.m., hands-on children’s activities, an early literacy scavenger hunt, free books, and meet your favorite storybook characters Elephant & Piggie and Pete the Cat! For ages 0 to 5 and their families. FREE.
March 11 — DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME
March 11 — FREE admission to the Charles H. Wright Museum of African-American History {Detroit} — Enter for FREE thanks to the DTE Energy Foundation.
March 11 — Detroit St. Patrick’s Day Parade {Detroit} — Visit Corktown, Detroit’s oldest surviving neighborhood, for a 12:30 p.m. parade kick-off.
March 12 — MSU Bug House Open House {East Lansing} — Visit Michigan State University for their Bug House open house and learn all about creepy crawly creatures! FREE. Learn more about what to expect at this post.
March 14 — PI DAY…Eat some pie and celebrate 😉 All 16 Grand Traverse Pie Company shops are offering a free slice of Michigan ABC Pie with any purchase!
March 16-17 — Grand Ledge St. Patrick’s Weekend {Grand Ledge} — Visit the Grand Ledge community for its 13th year of celebrating St. Patrick’s Day! Enjoy live music and dancing, beer and food, an Irish stew cookout, a free kid’s movie and parade through downtown Grand Ledge! Visit the website for all the details. Most activities are FREE.
March 17 — HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY!
March 17 — St. Patrick’s Day in Pinckney {Pinckney} — Activities abound on St. Patty’s Day in Pinckney. A parade at noon will feature bagpipe bands, Irish dancers and more. FREE to attend.

March 17 — Maple Syrup Festival at Fenner Nature Center {Lansing} — This festival offers numerous fun and educational demonstrations and activities for the whole family. Spend the day exploring how sap is collected and turned into sweet treats like syrup, maple crème, and candy. FREE, but $5 donation is suggested for parking and $8 for all-you-can-eat pancakes.
March 18 — Fairy Day at Grasshopper Gardens {Brighton} — Stop by the store from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for crafts, games and a celebration! FREE.
March 20 — Free Cone Day at Dairy Queen {Nationwide} — Visit Dairy Queen for a FREE small cone. Donations encouraged. Funds raised benefit Beaumont Children’s locally.
March 20 — HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SPRING!!!
March 24 — Maple Syrup Festival at For-Mar Nature Preserve {Flint} — Visit the Dewaters Building in For-Mar near the Sugar Shack for a firsthand look at how maple syrup is made. From tapping to pancake topping, see it all. Come anytime between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. $1/person; pre-registration required.
March 25 — FREE Day at FCM {Flint} — Visit the Flint Children’s Museum for free, thanks to Great Start Reading Program. Learn more + enter to win passes at this post.
March 28 — Wild Over Wednesday at the DNR Outdoor Adventure Center {Detroit} — Visit the OAC The last Wednesday of each month for free admission from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be story time, hands-on experiences, games and more. FREE.
