Family Fun in Southeast Michigan February 2019
Through February 2 — Sesame Street Live at The Fox Theatre {Detroit} — Everyone’s invited on an amazing journey with Elmo to discover the “power of yet” in Sesame Street Live! Make Your Magic. Like television’s Sesame Street, each Sesame Street Live production features timeless tunes and lessons for all ages. Tickets start at $15.
February 1 — Free Admission to Cranbrook Institute of Science {Bloomfield Hills} — Visit after 5 p.m. the first Friday of every month, courtesy of the MASCO Corporation, for FREE.
February 2 — Groundhog Day with Michigan’s Official Groundhog, Woody, at the Howell Nature Center {Howell} — Get your spring forecast straight from Woody, Michigan’s Official Groundhog! The Howell Conference & Nature Center will host a special celebration starting at 7:30 a.m.
February 2 — Michaels Kid Club {Nationwide} — Visit Michael’s to make a foxy Valentine! Kids 3 and up can enjoy a quick project and take home a finished masterpiece. Sign up in store or online, or just drop in. $2-$5, supplies included. 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Learn more at my post here.
February 2, 9, 16, 23 — FREE Day at the Flint Institute of Art {Flint} — This museum is FREE to visit every Saturday thanks to First Merit Bank.
February 2 — Families at The Broad {East Lansing} — Visit this East Lansing modern art museum from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. for hands-on activities FREE.
February 2 — Wild Winter Weekends at the Detroit Zoo {Royal Oak} — Wild Winter Weekends features arctic-themed arts and crafts, games and entertainment. All activities are free with zoo admission and take place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Ford Education Center. Admission range: Free for 2 and under, otherwise priced $10-$14.
February 2 — Kid’s Workshop at Home Depot {Nationwide} — Make a heart candy box for FREE at Home Depot. Hands-on workshops are designed for children ages 5-12 and take place between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. Advance registration encouraged. Learn more about what to expect at this post.
February 2 — Winterfest Snow Day {Milford} — Visit Central Park in Milford from 2-4 p.m. for snow-centric fun including winter games, ice skating, crafts, hot cocoa, a bonfire and more. FREE.
February 5 & 6 — LEGO Monthly Build at Somerset Collection {Troy} — Build a LEGO® caterpillar model and take it home for FREE after! Must register in advance. This event is open to children ages 6-14 only.
February 8 — Doom of the Dinosaurs: Are We Next Opening at Cranbrook Institute of Science {Bloomfield Hills} — Explore prehistoric times, come face-to-face with full-size skeletons of famous dinosaurs, including the Tyrannosaurus rex, and examine ancient coral reef dwellers and sea life once found in Michigan. Tickets range from $6-$8, in addition to general museum admission. The exhibit runs through September 1, 2019.
February 8-10 & 15-17 — Quicken Loans Winter Blast Weekends —{Detroit} —Quicken Loans Winter Blast Weekends features winter activities, live entertainment, and delicious local restaurants for the whole family to enjoy. FREE admission.
February 9 — MSU Bug House Open House {East Lansing} — Visit Michigan State University for their Bug House open house from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. and learn all about creepy crawly creatures! FREE. Learn more about what to expect at this post.
February 9 — MAKEbreak at Michaels {Nationwide} — Visit Michaels and make heart slime; supplies will be provided. 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. FREE.

February 9 — Hartland Family Winterfest {Hartland} — Visit Heritage Park from 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. for sledding, ice skating, face painting, crafts, live entertainment and more. The event will conclude with fireworks too! FREE.
February 9 — Ice Carving Festival {Ann Arbor} — Visit County Farm Park from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. to watch students from surrounding SE Michigan colleges and universities compete! Stand in awe as the carvers showcase their mastery with chainsaws & flamethrowers to create unique masterpieces to display. FREE. {This park is SO cute! See my review here.}
February 9-10 — Curling Fest {Chelsea} —Learn to curl, play in the tournament, or just stop by and watch the fun. Curling Fest has bonfires to warm your toes, hot drinks to warm your spirit, along with music, food, beer, and craft cocktails. $120 for a team of four.
February 9-10 — Enchanted Princess Ball {Warren} – The Enchanted Princess Ball is a theatrical performance that transports little princesses into a magical fairytale world! Classic stories are retold as favorite characters are brought to life from the pages of favorite books to the stage. Awaiting your arrival will be: Cinderella, Snow White, Belle, Sleeping Beauty, Tinkerbell, and more. Tickets are $24.50 for both adults and children.
February 10 — Darwin Discovery Day at MSU Museum {East Lansing} — The Michigan State University Museum will host its 15th annual Darwin Discovery Day from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. MSU scientists and students take part in Darwin Discovery Day to share their expertise and love of science with the public. Activities, tours and university science collections are featured throughout the MSU Museum. FREE.
February 13 — Preschool Valentine’s Day Party at Bounce {Hartland} — Visit Bounce for preschool playtime and stay for a craft and snack. $10/child. Ages 2-5 only. 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. RSVP by Feb. 8 to reserve a spot.
February 14 — Fairy Tea at Crazy Wisdom Book Store {Ann Arbor} — Children, ages 2-8, and their families are welcome for tea and cookies served by real fairies! Celebrate with enchanting fairies as they serve tea, treats, and magic. 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. events. Registration is required. $11/person. {Babies 18 months and younger are free.}
February 15 — Meet Clifford the Big Red Dog at The Oakland Mall {Troy} — Visit the mall between 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. for a meet and greet with Clifford! Arrive early for a spot in line. Clifford cones will also be offered at Dairy Queen for $1.49. FREE.
February 16 — MAKEbreak at Michaels {Nationwide} — Visit Michaels and make a family tree canvas; supplies will be provided. 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. FREE with purchase of a canvas.
February 17 — Engineering Day at Impression 5 {Lansing} — Michigan State University College of Engineering and Impression 5 Science Center present Engineering Day: A Day Engineered for Fun! Meet MSU Engineering Clubs and participate in a bunch of great themed activities from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. Regular admission applies.
February 17 — Southfield Winterfest {Southfield} — Join Southfield Parks & Recreation Department for fun including indoor fun with inflatables, a DJ, naturalists from Oakland County Parks and the Huron Clinton Metroparks, crafts and games in the Southfield Pavilion, plus outside fun with snow tubing, marshmallow roasting, horse-drawn carriage rides and free ice skating from 2 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. FREE.
February 21 & 22 — Under The African Sky at Wild Swan Theater {Ann Arbor} — A delightful collection of African tales performed through storytelling, acting, dancing, and drumming. Colorful costumes, masks, and traditional music will delight and teach our young fans, with lots of opportunities for audience participation. Geared for K-4th grade students. $10/children/seniors and $12 for adults.
February 23 — MAKEbreak at Michaels {Nationwide} — Visit Michaels and make crunchy spring slime; supplies will be provided. 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. FREE.
February 24 — MAKEbreak at Michaels {Nationwide} — Visit Michaels and make a LEGO picture frame; supplies will be provided. 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. FREE with purchase of LEGO items.
