It never fails…After Christmas, all I want to do is work on the house. It looks so plain once all the magic comes down, and I find myself dreaming of projects.
So one budget-friendly thing I do each season is change up my decor. I rotate my favorite pieces around the house, sell a few items that no longer fit, and purchase a few new things.
I recently visited HomeGoods, Pier 1 and T.J. Maxx at Green Oak Village Place in Brighton, Mich. to get inspired by current cozy home trends. While I fully expected to find all things farmhouse with lots of white and gray, I was pleasantly surprised to actually see a lot of GREEN. Seems like many of us are looking to cozy up our homes with the reminder that while it’s snowy white outside, it doesn’t have to feel chilly inside our homes 😉
Here are some of the trends I spotted at each store. Make sure to read to the bottom to enter a giveaway!
HomeGoods
The first store I popped into was HomeGoods. This store never fails me. With decor for every budget, and loads of great gift items, it’s hard to walk out empty-handed.
With less daylight, I find winter to be a great time to organize. HomeGoods had SO many options for cool storage including beautiful wicker baskets and wood/metal crates. These could be useful for craft items, toys, blankets, etc.
As I mentioned, one trend I spotted everywhere was greenery, from faux succulents and cacti to simple green grasses. I love this trend because I appreciate the outdoor aura plants bring when it’s snowy outside. It’s a great reminder that good things are ahead!
HomeGoods is also always a great spot to find unique art. I’ve been eyeing all the quirky animal art lately. I recently bought a cow and pig piece and I get lots of comments on those. Art can not only cozy-up a space, but also bring a great, FUN vibe!
Pier 1
Next, I walked over to Pier 1. Just stepping into this store brings a smile to my face. It always is laid out so beautifully and the items are so unique.
My attention immediately fell to the pillow wall. A bold pillow color can change a room, so it’s one of my favorite tricks for home decor. Pier 1 definitely takes the cake as the best store to get them — there is such a great variety of textures.
The green trend couldn’t escape at this store either 😉 I fell in love with this little planter with a man’s face on one side and a woman’s on the other. It was affordable and whimsical!
Pier 1 also has tons of great art ranging from large hand-woven baskets and high end mosaic pieces to small, more modern pieces. I’ve been dreaming about this ‘Free Range Kids’ sign since I saw it, so I will be going to nab it soon! {My house is usually pretty chaotic, and I love the laughs it will bring to those who visit us!}
A display of twinkling lights also caught my eye at Pier 1. Ever since Christmas has been over, I’ve been missing little lights around my house. I love the idea of using these in jars or lanterns in my kitchen and bathroom to give it a cozy look.
T.J. Maxx
Lastly, I visited T.J. Maxx, which is another store that never disappoints in the home decor arena {and beyond}.
There, again, I spotted plenty of GREEN. This store had a lot of green-inspired art, which was really fun and another way to be on-trend while on a budget.
But the green wasn’t just in the art…I even spotted loads of it in the kitchen area. These succulent stacking bowls were so neat and would be great for entertaining in any season.
Another item that is trendy, and for good reason, are letter boards. TJs had an awesome selection at various price points. I love the idea of including a quote for the current season.
So there you have it…Some of the fun trends for cozying up your home this winter! Which trends are your favorite?

We are currently working on completely redecorating our entire apartment. I keep up on trends to see if there are ideas that I am into, but mostly we do what we like and what is us, regardless of trends. Every room of apt is being redone in modern contemporary black and white (kitchen all white though). We made sure the furniture is comfortable though & are changing our tv console to one with an electric fireplace one for the ambiance. We love candles and getting a bunch of Luminara ones so we can have them ‘lit” in more places and much more often although safely. The types of lighting is a big deal to us. Also the types of artwork on the walls. Our favorite piece is a huge framed silhouette of an angel. In our bedroom, we have photos of us & our indulgently awesome massage chair. & a large heavy mirror in the center of metalwork wall sculpture and more tealight candles in a black metal tealight candle holder that hangs on the wall. Finally, seasonal yummy comforting scents especially edible ones in wax warmers or candles or such we love too. We change them to match whatever season or holiday we are in, same with our kitchen and bathroom Bath & Bodyworks hand soaps we choose yummy scents that match each month.
