March is going to ROCK. This month brings Reading Month, International Women’s Day, Pi Day, Daylight Saving Time, St. Patrick’s Day and the first day of spring. Talk about fun times ahead!

Throughout March — Read Across America Month{Nationwide} — Check your local library for great events!
March 1 — Cranbrook Institute of Science {Bloomfield Hills} — Visit this gem for FREE after 5 p.m. on the first Friday of the month courtesy of the MASCO Corporation Foundation.
March 2 — Celebrate Dr. Seuss at Target {Nationwide} — Select Target stores will be hosting a Dr. Seuss read-along. Join for story time every half hour, enter giveaways and take home some freebies. 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. FREE. {Check your store for details!}
March 2 — Families at The Broad {East Lansing} – Visit this East Lansing modern art museum from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. for hands-on activities. FREE thanks to Farm Bureau.
March 2 — Home Depot Kids Workshop {Nationwide} — Visit Home Depot to build a freestanding clock. Workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills, tool safety and instill a sense of pride and accomplishment. Kids get to keep their craft, receive a certificate of achievement, a workshop apron, and a pin. 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. FREE. {Learn more here}
March 2 — Michaels Kid Club {Nationwide} — Visit Michael’s to make painted rock friends. Kids 3 and up can enjoy a quick project and take home a finished masterpiece. Sign up in store or online, or just drop in. $2-$5, supplies included. 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Learn more at my post here.
March 2 — Make Break at Michael’s {Nationwide} — Pop into Michael’s to paint birdhouses. Buy the birdhouse, get the supplies for free. 1-3 p.m.
March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 — FREE Day at the Flint Institute of Art {Flint} — This museum is FREE to visit every Saturday thanks to First Merit Bank.
March 5 & 6 — LEGO Monthly Build at Somerset Collection {Troy} — Build a LEGO® Viking ship model and take it home for FREE after! Must register in advance. This event is open to children ages 6-14 only.
March 6 and March 16 at 11 a.m. — Young Explorers at Michigan Science Center {Detroit} — Visit Kids Town with children ages 2 – 5 for stories, science-themed activities and socialization time. Adult with one child is $10; additional children are $5. Children under two are free. March is all about the body.
March 8 — INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY! Try one of these ideas to celebrate being a woman!
March 8-10 — Michigan Horse Expo {East Lansing} — The Michigan Horse Expo is one of the largest three-day equine expos in the country. Visit to see a rodeo, a mounted police demo and more. Adults {16+} are $15, children {6-15} are $5 and children 5 and under are free.

March 9 — Make Break at Michael’s {Nationwide} — Pop into Michael’s to make a “some bunny loves you” wreath. Buy the wreath, get the supplies for free. 1-3 p.m.
March 9-10 — Finding Neverland at The Whiting {Flint} —Based on the Academy Award®-winning film of the same name, this breathtaking show follows playwright J.M. March 10 — Detroit St. Patrick’s Day Parade {Detroit} — Visit Corktown, Detroit’s oldest surviving neighborhood, for a 12:30 p.m. parade kick-off.
March 10 — Family MAKE Week at Michaels {Nationwide} — Stop in from 2-4 p.m. to make a salt painting as a family. FREE.
March 11 — Family MAKE Week at Michaels{Nationwide} — Stop in from 4-6 p.m. to make an egg drop craft as a family. FREE.
March 11 — MSU Bug House Open House {East Lansing} — Visit Michigan State University for their Bug House open house and learn all about creepy crawly creatures! FREE. Learn more about what to expect at this post.
March 12 — Family MAKE Week at Michaels {Nationwide} — Stop in from 4-6 p.m. to make a binary code necklace craft as a family. FREE.
March 12 — FREE Pancake Day {Nationwide} — IHOP restaurants will offer each guest a free short stack of their famous buttermilk pancakes to raise needed funds and awareness for Beaumont Children’s Hospital, the only Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals affiliate in Southeast Michigan.
March 13 — Family MAKE Week at Michaels{Nationwide} — Stop in from 4-6 p.m. to make a 3D structure craft as a family. FREE.
March 14 — PI DAY…Eat some pie and celebrate 😉 All 15 Grand Traverse Pie Company shops are offering a free slice of Michigan ABC Pie with any purchase!
March 16 — March Madness Sale at all Metro Detroit Salvation Army Thrift Store {All SE Michigan Stores} — Stop in for 50% off all clothing! This is the perfect sale to stock up for spring and summer.
March 16 — Oakland County St. Patrick’s Day Parade {Royal Oak} — Head to Royal Oak for St. Patty’s fun brought by the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Listen to bagpipe bands, watch Irish dancers, and more. 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. FREE to attend.
March 16 — Family Fun Day: Celebrate Reading {Howell} — Visit 2|42 Community Center from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. for an interactive stage show featuring The Merry Music Maker, plus, enjoy hands-on children’s activities, free books, and meet your favorite storybook characters Pete the Cat, Llama Llama and Cookie Mouse! For children ages 0-5 and their families. FREE.
March 16 — St. Patrick’s Day in Pinckney {Pinckney} — Activities abound on St. Patty’s Day in Pinckney. A parade at noon will feature bagpipe bands, Irish dancers and more. FREE to attend.
March 17 — HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY!
March 23 — Faerie Garden and Doors Workshop at Matthaei Botanical Garden {Ann Arbor} — Create magical faerie gardens from natural materials to invite faeries into your yard. Class fills quickly, pre-registration suggested. Recommended for children ages 4-12. Two time slots available. $12/person.

March 17 — Maple Syrup Festival at Fenner Nature Center {Lansing} — This festival offers numerous fun and educational demonstrations and activities for the whole family. Spend the day exploring how sap is collected and turned into sweet treats like syrup, maple crème, and candy. FREE, but $5 donation is suggested for parking and $8 for all-you-can-eat pancakes.
March 17 — FREE Day at FCM {Flint} — Visit the Flint Children’s Museum for free, thanks to Genessee Intermediate School District. Learn more about this gem at this post.
March 20 — HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SPRING!!!
March 20 — Free Cone Day at Dairy Queen {Nationwide} — Visit Dairy Queen for a FREE small cone. Donations encouraged. Funds raised benefit Beaumont Children’s locally.
March 23 — Maple Syrup Festival at For-Mar Nature Preserve {Flint} — Visit the Dewaters Building in For-Mar near the Sugar Shack for a firsthand look at how maple syrup is made. From tapping to pancake topping, see it all. Come anytime between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. $2/person; pre-registration required.
March 28 — Wild Over Wednesday at the DNR Outdoor Adventure Center {Detroit} — Visit the OAC The last Thursday of each month for free admission from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be story time, hands-on experiences, games and more. FREE.
Don’t forget to visit the Rainforest Adventure Maze with Sloan Museum at the Courtland Center Mall — perfect for some spring break fun!
