I recently was asked for ideas for teens that don’t cost much. I thought that was a fantastic idea for a post, so I started reflecting back on things I enjoyed as a teen myself. One thing came to mind: Disc golf! Thankfully there are TONS of disc golf courses in southeast Michigan that are free or very inexpensive. I love that it is a sport that can be enjoyed by all generations from young kids to adults!
The hubby and I decided it was time to take a crack at the sport on a few date nights, and I was reminded why I enjoy it so much despite being pretty terrible at it. It’s a fun, active way to get outside and play. We laughed SO much playing together, and I can definitely see this becoming a regular date for us.
If you aren’t familiar with the game, disc golf is a game in which players throw a flying disc into a basket. The object is to have the lowest number of throws by the end of the game, just like regular golf.
This sport involves little cost besides the discs. Those can get pricey if you are really serious about it, so I’d recommend just a $20 or less starter kit like this {affiliate link} if you’re a beginner.
It’s definitely not an easy sport, but it’s still a blast! While playing, I recommend applying sunscreen, wearing tennis shoes {it’s a lot of walking}, and loose sports attire to keep you cool. Bring water or other beverages! It took us close to 1.5 hours to play 18 holes.
Head out to one of these disc golf courses in southeast Michigan and have some fun. There are tons of courses around Ann Arbor, Detroit, Flint and Lansing.
