My oh my…Can you believe it’s JULY? It’s finally heating up here in Michigan, and there are tons of fab events happening this month!
Take a peek at what’s coming up for family fun in southeast Michigan, including fun around Ann Arbor, Detroit, Flint, Lansing, and make sure to comment with what you’re up to this month. One thing we will for sure be doing is picking blueberries at our favorite local farm!
Family Fun in Southeast Michigan July 2019
Through July 6 — Salute to America in Greenfield Village {Dearborn} — A classic Independence Day celebration with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra that features authentic cannon fire and a spectacular fireworks display accompanied by live patriotic music. Event held rain or shine, just make sure to get tickets in advance! Adults 13+: $32, Youth 5-12: $24, children under 5 are free.
Through July 7 — Ann Arbor Summer Festival {Ann Arbor} — More than 140 live performances, a kid’s zone and more. Costs vary, depending on the act.
July 3-7 — WWII AirPower History Tour {Waterford} — Visit Oakland County International Airport for historic WWII airplane tours and rides. $10/adults, $5/kids ages 10-17, free for kids under age 9.
July 4 — Independence Celebration at Crossroads Village {Flint} — Three cheers for the red, white and blue! Celebrate the holiday with all kinds of fun and games including an exciting carnival midway! Then take a break and enjoy our annual old-fashioned ice cream social. Village tickets start at $11 for adults and $9 for children, children 2 and under free {train is an additional cost}.
July 4 — Brighton Independence Day Parade {Brighton} — This annual parade kicks off at 10 a.m. in downtown Brighton. FREE.
July 4 — Independence Fest {Clarkston} — This event features fun activities and a parade for the whole family. Parking and shuttle fees. 10 a.m. kick-off.
July 4 — Northville Independence Day Parade {Northville} — Music, floats, marching bands, clowns, children’s characters, vintage and classic cars, and even a few celebs will make an appearance in this parade, which kicks off at 10 a.m. FREE.
July 4 — Clawson 4th of July Festival {Clawson} — Visit Clawson for a parade, live entertainment, a carnival and more. Parade kick-off is at 9 a.m. FREE.
July 4 — Fowlerville Parade and Fireworks {Fowlerville} — Visit downtown Fowlerville for the annual parade at 7 p.m. followed by a gorgeous fireworks display. Donations encouraged.
July 4 — Ann Arbor Jaycees 4th of July Parade {Ann Arbor} — This annual parade starts at 10 a.m. FREE.
July 4 — 4th of July Parade in Lansing {Lansing} — Celebrate Independence Day with clowns, antique and specialty automobiles, musicians, dance troops, community groups, and military units. Kicks off at 11 a.m.

July 5 — First Friday at the Farm {Ann Arbor} — Visit The Petting Farm at Domino’s Farms from 5-8 p.m. for some delicious food trucks and fun activities throughout the farm. $6/per person; free for children 23 months and younger.
July 5 — Free Admission to Cranbrook Institute of Science {Bloomfield Hills} — Visit after 5 p.m. the first Friday of every month, courtesy of the MASCO Corporation, for FREE.
July 5-14 — Oakland County Fair {Davisburg} — Grandstand events, contests, fair food, Big Rock Amusements Carnival, fireworks, free live concerts and MORE! Additionally, Family Safety Day is July 14 and is a fun excuse to see fire trucks, police cards, a helicopter and more. Fair parking is $12/vehicle. We absolutely LOVE this event! July 6 — Home Depot Kid’s Workshop {Nationwide} — Build a custom tow truck at this hands-on workshops; designed for children ages 5 – 12. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last. Register online in advance. FREE.
July 6 — Michael’s Kid Club {Nationwide} — Drop into a Michael’s Craft Store and take home a completed project! Just $3 per child for 30 minutes of creative craft fun, including supplies. 10 a.m. – noon. Ages 3 and up. This day’s project is a happy face jar. Learn what to expect at this post.
July 6 — Families at The Broad {East Lansing} — Visit this East Lansing modern art museum from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. for hands-on activities. FREE.
July 6 — Whitmore Lake Fireworks {Whitmore Lake} — Music and fun at Northfield Township Park from 7 p.m. – 10 pm. FREE.
July 6, 13, 20, 27 — FREE Day at the Flint Institute of Art {Flint} — This museum is FREE to visit every Saturday thanks to Huntington.
July 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, 27 & 18 — University of Michigan’s Natural History Museum Tours {Ann Arbor} — Get behind-the-scenes information about the Biological Sciences Building {the museum’s new home}, and learn about exhibits like the iconic mastodon couple, the Majungasaurus, and more. July 7 — Summer Sundays at Upland Hills Farm {Oxford} — Enjoy all of the farm animals, a farmer will be in the barn to help the brave ones milk a cow, hayrides will be going out regularly, bring a picnic lunch or purchase food at the concession, and pony rides are available. 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. $9/person. {It’s grandparents day, so buy one admission, and one grandparent is free!}
July 8-13 — Eaton County Fair {Charlotte} — Whether you enjoy tractor and truck pulls, motor-cross races or demolition derbies, you can find it all at the Eaton County Fair. Daily admission is $5, children under 5 are FREE. Kids Day is Tuesday {ride wristbands for $18}. Toddler Day is Thursday {$5 ride wristbands for ages 6 and under}!
July 9-10 — Zoo Days at Potter Park Zoo {Lansing} — On Zoo Days, admission is only $1 with a voucher* and parking is free. *1 voucher per person. Vouchers can be found at surrounding Meijer locations. Visit link for more info.

July 10-18 — Concert of Colors {Detroit} — This popular Detroit event features ethnic tunes, food, arts, crafts and family fun at multiple Midtown Detroit venues. FREE.
July 11 — FREE Slurpee Day at 7-Eleven {Nationwide} — According to my kids, this is one of the best days ever 😉 Stop in for a FREE slurpee!
July 11-13 — Lavender Festival at Blake’s Farms {Armada} — Fresh lavender, flowers and a lavender infused menu is offered throughout the weekend. Enjoy a gourmet lunch while sipping on a glass of ice-cold Lavender Lemonade. Admission is $7 for adults; Children under 12 are free.
July 11-14 — Uncle Sam Jam Festival {Woodhaven} — This festival features a carnival midway, free music from national and local acts, free attractions, such as a petting zoo and camel rides, free fireworks and more. $10 for parking onsite; free admission.
July 12-13 — A Taste of Brighton {Brighton} — Enjoy sidewalk shopping, samples of food, a family fun zone, wine and beer gardens, live music, arts and crafts and more. FREE.
July 12-14 — Art In The Park {Plymouth} — Art In The Park is the second largest art fair in Michigan. The 3-day event features more than 400 artists from all over the country. Many activities for the entire family, too! FREE.
July 13 — Be A Tourist in Your Home Town {Flint} — For just $1 per person, participants can purchase a Passport which gives them the opportunity to visit more than 30 different venues around Flint & Genesee, including the Flint Children’s Museum, Longway Planetarium, Sloan Museum and more.

July 18 — Train Day at MSU Children’s Gardens {East Lansing} — All aboard! Visit the children’s garden to celebrate locomotive love with the Capital Area Railway Society. Watch trains of all shapes and sizes, construct a train village in the garden, discover what happens on the tracks and much more! $5/child.
July 18-21 — Ann Arbor Art Fair {Ann Arbor} — The Ann Arbor Street Art Fair is the original of a collective of four fairs that transform Ann Arbor into a massive outdoor art gallery. Kid’s activities, street performers, great food and more! FREE, but bring money to park for parking.
July 18-21 — Farmington Founder’s Fest {Farmington} — The Farmington Founders Festival is a weekend-long celebration of crafts, music and community and features lots of events for kids as well. FREE.
July 20 — MSU Bug House Open House {East Lansing} — Visit MSU’s Bug House, where you can see, touch or even hold some real creepy crawlers. In addition to viewing the amazing pinned displays, you’ll have the opportunity to interact with a whole room of insects, including walking sticks and tarantulas. 1 – 4 p.m. FREE.
July 21 — Alpaca Day Expo {Howell} — Visit Triple Diamonds Alpaca Ranch for food, music, crafts, alpaca kisses and more from 12-6 p.m. FREE.
July 21 — Festival of Chariots {Novi} — This ancient cultural festival celebrates Hindu and is celebrated all over the world. Participate in a parade and pull a four story high chariot through the streets of Novi followed by ethnic music, free food, kids activities, live entertainment, yoga and more. FREE.
July 22-27 — Fowlerville Family Fair {Fowlerville} — 4H animal shows, demolition derby, concerts, kids activities and more! Gate admission fees: adults – $6, seniors 62+ – $5, children (6-12) – $3, children under 4 are free. {Kids Day is July 24 and there will be lots of activities}!

July 25 — Thrilling Thursdays at the DNR Outdoor Adventure Center {Detroit} — Visit the OAC the last Thursday of each month for free admission from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be story time, hands-on experiences, games and more. FREE.
July 25-27 — Sounds & Sights Festival {Chelsea} — This event features national and local music acts, local food and brew, an Indie Art Market, classic car show, chalk art contest and activities for the entire family. FREE.
July 25-27 — Sterlingfest {Sterling Heights} —Sterlingfest mixes the tradition of an arts & crafts fair with a jazz and blues stage, Kidzfest children’s activities, a midway and more. FREE.
July 26 — South Lyon Summer Spray and Play {South Lyon} — Meet at the parking lot across from the station for some fire truck water fun! Children must be with an adult; water shoes recommended. FREE.
July 26-28 — St. Clair Riverfest {St. Clair} —The St. Clair Riverfest packs in offshore boat racing, food/street vendors, and tons of live entertainment. FREE entry.
July 27-28 — Make Faire Detroit {Dearborn} — Visit The Henry Ford for robots, flame shooters, and more from 400+ developers. This family-friendly event encourages tech, art, engineering and thinking outside the box. Adults – $28, children – $10, kids 5 and under – free.
July 31 — Bug Day at MSU Children’s Gardens {East Lansing} — Visit the children’s gardens for collecting bugs, observing bugs, making bugs and even writing poetry about bugs! Our friends from the MSU Bug House will be bringing their amazing collections of insects from all over the world! $5/child.
