2019 Southeast Michigan Halloween Happenings

Halloween is my favorite holiday for so many reasons…Scary movies, donuts and pumpkins at my favorite spot, haunted houses, and of course, the excuse to dress up, are just a few.

This year, I’ve joined forces with some fellow local bloggers to share Southeast Michigan Halloween Happenings, and since I live in Livingston County, I’m covering this area. Please note some are not family-friendly because let’s be real — Halloween isn’t just for kids! 😉

September 26: Witches Night Out in Downtown Howell

• Description: This 11th annual event offers spooktacular ladies shopping and dining night with more than 27 businesses participating. Grab your girlfriends, call the gremlin sitter, put on your fanciest witches garb and visit for a spellbinding time!

Thursdays – Saturdays, October 3-27: Howell Historical Ghost Tours

• Times: Various, depending on the day. Tours from 8 p.m. – 9:45 p.m.
• Cost: $25/person. Advance pay via PayPal at the website.
• Description: Join Psychic Medium, Dianna O’Grady on a stroll through the 150 year old streets of Downtown Howell, where the the past and present come alive! Hear accounts of ghostly apparitions, shadow figures, and orbs, as experienced by local business owners, local residents and paranormal investigators. An RSVP is required.

October 8: Halloween Party at M Street Baking Co.

• Time: 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.
• Cost: FREE to attend
• Description: Stop into M Street Baking Co. for a Halloween party! Stop in wearing a Halloween costume and bring in a NEW warm winter item (coat, gloves, hat, scarf, etc.) for a child or adult & revive a FREE mini shake. All items will be donated locally. Also, FREE cupcakes to the first 100 guests to the party!

October 9: Horror Movie Villain Trivia

• Description: Test your horror movie knowledge at this fun trivia event. For ages 21+ only.

October 12: Halloween Pizza & Paint

Miller Center Cafe | 850 Spencer Rd., Brighton

• Cost: $25/child
• Description: Join Brighton Community Ed for a fun filled evening sure to ignite your kid’s creativity! Each child will receive the supplies needed to create a special Halloween inspired project. Participants will also enjoy time in the bounce houses and get pizza, a drink and a Halloween sweet treat. This is a drop-off event so mom & dad can get a night out too!

October 13: Non-Scary Kids Day at Ghostly Grave

10055 Dexter Pinckney Rd., Pinckney

• Time: 3 p.m. – 5 p.m.

• Description: Visit Ghostly Grave for a non-scary kids event. Children and their families will get a chance to walk the 3/4 mile trail and receive candy.

October 15: Family Fun Pumpkin Yoga at Fawcett Farms

• Cost: $25/adult child pair and includes one pumpkin to use during class and then take home
• Descrption: Join Ashley & Logan as they lead you through a fun Pumpkin Yoga flow FAMILY style! This outdoor Michigan fall experience is perfect for parents, grandparents, caregivers, and their children, ages 5-11.

October 15: Presentation on Michigan’s Haunted Lighthouses

• Description: More than 30 lights in Michigan are rumored to be haunted. From the smell of cigar smoke at Seul Choix Point Light to the mysterious housekeeping at White River Light Station and the antics at Waugoshance Shoal, these stories will entertain all ages. This popular program is coming to the pages of “Michigan’s Haunted Lighthouses.” Following the presentation, a book sale / signing will be offered. The book is $20 cash or $21.19 credit charge.

October 19: Legend of Sleepy Howell

October 19: 12 Hour Horror Movie Invasion at Historic Howell Theater

October 20: Gypsy Mama’s Halloween Psychic Fair at the Howell Opera House

• Cost: $5 entry, added costs for psychic readings
• Description: Come celebrate a mystical Halloween at the 9th annual Halloween Psychic Fair. Enjoy a variety of psychic readers, holistic healers and unique specialty merchants. Readings start at $20. Tickets are $5 at the door, with swag bags for the first 50 arrivals. There will also be hourly raffle giveaways and complimentary Halloween treats.

October 20: Fall Family Fest at North Star Reach

1200 University Camp Dr., Pinckney

• Description: Visit for an afternoon of family-friendly fun! Tickets include donuts, live entertainment, trick or treating, pumpkin painting, and lots more seasonal camp fun! All proceeds help to support North Star’s mission of providing life-changing camp experiences for children with serious illnesses and their families, free of charge.

October 25: Teen Halloween Aerial Party at SoulShine Yoga

• Description: This one is just for teens! Join Lauren as she guides participants in a fun Aerial Yoga class with a Halloween twist. Costume and/or Halloween attire encouraged.

October 25: Trick or Treat Time at MediLodge

• Description: MediLodge of Howell is inviting children in the community to trick or treat! There will be cider and donuts, photos and photo booth, pumpkin patch, and a raffle drawing.

October 25: Livingston County Sherriff’s Office Trunk-or-Treat

• Description: Go trick-or-treating in the safest environment possible…With our local first responders! Free to attend.

October 25: Halloween Spooktacular at Bounce Gymnastics

• Cost: $20 for open bounce + fun
• Description: Visit Bounce for open bounce and stay for Halloween fun including games, activities, and a Halloween movie with popcorn!

October 26: Cornerstone Christian School’s Trunk or Treat

• Description: Visit Cornerstone for hayrides, games, bonfire, cider, donuts, and lots of candy!

October 26 & 27: Howl-O-Ween at Howell Nature Center

1005 Triangle Lake Rd., Howell

• Time: 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.
• Cost: HNC members: $5/adult & $10/child; general ticket: $7/adult &$12/child. Non-participating infants are free with any adult.
• Description: Dress up your little critter and visit the nature center for a HOWLing good time! This merry-not-so-scary event features trick-or-treating through the Wild Wonders Wildlife Park, children’s crafts, hayrides, cider and donuts, and more. Pre-event registration is required.

October 26: Pinckney Halloween Spooktacular 

Downtown Pinckney

• Time: 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
• Cost: FREE
• Description: The Pinckney Halloween Spooktacular is sponsored by the Downtown Development Authority and several local businesses. Activities include trunk-or-treat, a spooky forest, refreshments, music, games, and a costume contest. The Spooktacular will be held in and around the Square in downtown.

October 26: Scary Storytime at the Howell Opera House

Howell Opera House – 123 W. Grand River, Howell | 517-540-0065

• Time: 7 p.m. for kids; 9 p.m. for adults
• Cost: Free; $20 donation includes dessert and coffee
• Description: Join the Ann Arbor Storytellers’ Guild for scary stories for both children’s and adults. The adult story will be held on the second floor, so bring a jacket as there is no heat! {Make sure to ask about the ghost named Meredith there!}

October 27: Monster Splash at Howell Aquatic Center 

Howell Area Aquatic & Fitness Center, 1224 W. Grand River Ave. | 517-546-0693

• Cost: $5/child {adults are free}
• Description: Visit the aquatic center for a Monster Splashin’ good time! Come dressed in your costume for a chance to win some great prizes in our contest, explore our kid friendly haunted sunken ship (in our Observation Room), participate in our grave yard walk, and decorate some Halloween crafts.  Afterwards, put on your suit and join us in the pool for our’ Monster Dash’ swimming contest, ‘Walk the Plank’ cannon ball contest, and dive for ‘Pirates Lost Gold.’

October 27: Halloween Scavenger Hunt for Families in Brighton

• Description: Grab the family and dress in your best Halloween costumes for this fun family affair. Decode all the clues to reveal a fun adventure around Brighton. Prizes and or goodies at each stop. Each child will receive a goody bag. One registration per family.

October 27: Indoor Trunk or Treat at Howell First United Methodist Church

1230 Bower St, Howell, MI 48843

• Time: 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
• Cost: FREE
• Description: Kids of all ages can show off their costumes and enjoy candy, games, a bounce house, hot dogs and cocoa all without fear of cold or rain.

October 27: Fall Fest at Venture Church

• Time: 12 p.m. – 3 p.m.
• Cost: FREE
• Description: Visit Venture Church for inflatables, a climbing wall, 3D archery, hay rides, live music, and MONSTER TRUCKS. Enjoy goodies from our food tent, donuts and s’mores by the bonfire, and cast your vote in the chili cook-off!

October 30: Halloween Trick Or Treat at Tanger Outlets

Howell Tanger Outlets | 1475 N. Burkhart Rd., Howell | 517-545-0500

• Time: 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. {or until supplies run out!}
• Cost: FREE
• Description: Visit Tanger Outlets Howell for the annual Trick or Treating event! Children 12 years and under are invited to Trick or Treat on the “Tanger Streets” while the candy supplies last. Participating stores will have a decal on their doors.

October 30: The Connection Youth Service Halloween Party

Howell Opera House – 123 W. Grand River, Howell | 517-540-0065

• Time: 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.
• Cost: FREE
• Description: Visit the Howell Opera House for the Connection Youth Services annual Halloween party. The event is free of charge and open to all youth ages 12 – 20. There will be food and drink, door prizes, games, and dancing with a live DJ.

October 31: Tridge or Treat Halloween Spooktacular

Downtown Brighton

• Time: 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
• Cost: FREE
• Description: Join Brighton Community Ed and The Downtown Development Authority on Halloween night for the Annual Tridge-or-Treat Halloween Spooktacular at the Millpond. During this FREE event, kids will follow a fun-filled decorated route along the tridge and past the spooky cemetery to collect candy from their favorite costumed characters! The trick-or-treat route ends near the Fire Station where they hold their annual Halloween celebration. Event is held rain or shine… Come on out it’s FUN for all ages!
