March is going to ROCK. This month brings Reading Month, International Women’s Day, Pi Day, Daylight Saving Time, St. Patrick’s Day and the first day of spring. Talk about fun times ahead!

Throughout March — Read Across America Month {Nationwide} — Check your local library for great events!
March 6 — Cranbrook Institute of Science FREE First Friday {Bloomfield Hills} — Visit this gem for FREE after 5 p.m. on the first Friday of the month courtesy of the MASCO Corporation Foundation.
March 6-8 — Michigan Horse Expo {East Lansing} — The Michigan Horse Expo is one of the largest three-day equine expos in the country. Visit to see a rodeo, a mounted police demo and more. Advance tickets for adults {16+} are $15, children {6-15} are $5 and children 5 and under are free.
March 7, 14, 21, 28 — FREE Day at the Flint Institute of Art {Flint} — This museum is FREE to visit every Saturday thanks to First Merit Bank.
March 7 — Families at The Broad {East Lansing} – Visit this East Lansing modern art museum from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. for hands-on activities. FREE.
{CANCELLED due to Coronavirus!} March 7 — Home Depot Kids Workshop {Nationwide} — Visit Home Depot to build binoculars. Workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills, tool safety and instill a sense of pride and accomplishment. Kids get to keep their craft, receive a certificate of achievement, a workshop apron, and a pin. 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. FREE. {Learn more here}
March 7 — Storytime at Barnes & Noble {Nationwide} — Visit B&N at 11 a.m. to hear How To Catch A Dinosaur and/or How To Catch A Unicorn followed by activities. FREE.
March 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28, 29 — Pure Detroit Fisher Building Tour {Detroit} — Listen as an expert leads you through Albert Kahn’s 1928 masterpiece where you will see firsthand the exquisite design and ornamentation of the interior arcade, including one-of-a-kind mosaics, painted ceilings, Art Deco chandeliers and the finest craftsmanship in stone, brass and bronze. The tour is approximately 45-60 minutes long and open to the public of all ages. 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. tours available. Register at puredetroit.rezgo.com. FREE.
March 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28, 29 — Pure Detroit Guardian Building Tour {Detroit} — Visitors will learn the details surrounding the building’s creations, including the banking titans, stone workers, artists, and architects involved. The tour is open to all ages. 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. tours available. Register at puredetroit.rezgo.com. FREE.
March 8 — DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME!
March 8 — INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY! Try one of these ideas to celebrate being a woman!
March 8-13 — Family MAKE Week at Michaels {Nationwide} — Stop in from 4-6 p.m. to make a different craft each day. FREE, including supplies!
March 8 — FREE Community Day at Michigan Science Center {Detroit} — Visit the museum for free thanks to Ford.
March 9 — MSU Bug House Open House {East Lansing} — Visit Michigan State University from 5:30-7:30 p.m. for their Bug House open house and learn all about creepy crawly creatures! FREE.
March 14 — Spring Maker Fest at Michael’s {Nationwide} — Pop into Michael’s to make a spring frame. Buy a wooden frame, get the decorating supplies for free. 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
March 14 — PI DAY…Eat some pie and celebrate 😉 All 15 Grand Traverse Pie Company shops are offering a free slice of Michigan ABC Pie with any purchase!
March 14 — Oakland County St. Patrick’s Day Parade {Royal Oak} — Head to Royal Oak for St. Patty’s fun brought by the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Listen to bagpipe bands, watch Irish dancers, and more. 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. FREE to attend.
March 14 — Family Fun Day: Celebrate Reading {Howell} — Visit 2|42 Community Center from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. for an interactive stage show featuring The Music Lady, plus, enjoy hands-on children’s activities, free books, and meet your favorite storybook characters Pete the Cat, Llama Llama and Cookie Mouse! For children ages 0-5 and their families. FREE.
March 14 — St. Patrick’s Day in Pinckney {Pinckney} — Activities abound on St. Patty’s Day in Pinckney. A parade at noon will feature bagpipe bands, Irish dancers and more. FREE to attend. {The website info is up-to-date, but the date is wrong. I promise it’s on the 14th!}
March 14 — Faerie Garden and Doors Workshop at Matthaei Botanical Garden {Ann Arbor} — Create magical faerie gardens from natural materials to invite faeries into your yard. Class fills quickly, pre-registration suggested. Recommended for children ages 4-12. Two time slots available at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. $14/person.
March 14 — Maple Syrup Festival at Fenner Nature Center {Lansing} — This festival offers numerous fun and educational demonstrations and activities for the whole family. Spend the day exploring how sap is collected and turned into sweet treats like syrup, maple crème, and candy. 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. FREE, but $5 donation is suggested for parking and $8 for all-you-can-eat pancakes.
March 15 — Detroit St. Patrick’s Day Parade {Detroit} — Visit Corktown, Detroit’s oldest surviving neighborhood, for a 12:30 p.m. parade kick-off.
March 15 — My Turn: Sensory Friendly Sunday at the Ann Arbor Hands On Museum {Ann Arbor} — MyTurn offers a crowd-free, less-stimulating time to experience the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum alongside other families with similar life experiences. During this event, families will have a chance to explore the Museum in their own way and participate in hands-on activities. Purchase tickets here for $5 each.
March 17 — HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY!

March 19 — Free Cone Day at Dairy Queen {Nationwide} — Visit Dairy Queen for a FREE small cone. Donations encouraged. Funds raised benefit Beaumont Children’s locally. {Post coming soon!}
March 19 — Thrilling Thursday at the DNR Outdoor Adventure Center {Detroit} — Visit the OAC for free admission from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be story time, hands-on experiences, games and more. FREE.
March 21 — 50th Annual Maple Syrup Festival at For-Mar Nature Preserve {Flint} — Visit the Dewaters Building in For-Mar near the Sugar Shack for a firsthand look at how maple syrup is made. From tapping to pancake topping and a professional pancake flipper. 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. $8/person; pre-registration required.
March 21 — Pete The Cat Pizza Party at Nicola’s Books {Ann Arbor} — Visit Nicola’s Books from 11 .am. – 12 p.m. for a pizza party with none other than Pete the Cat!
March 22 — FREE Day at Flint Children’s Museum {Flint} Visit the museum for FREE from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. on this day thanks to Genesee Intermediate School District! {Learn more about what to expect on a visit here.}
March 25 — Grab a coffee at a Biggby Coffee location for 99 cents to celebrate their 25th birthday!
March 28 – September 7 — Marvel Universe of Super Heroes at The Henry Ford {Dearborn} — From comics to film, Marvel: Universe of Super Heroesfeatures more than 300 artifacts, including some of Marvel’s most iconic and sought-after pages, costumes and props. Tickets start at $18.75 for children, and $25 for adults.
