How is it already August? Summer is slipping by! We are in the final countdown of family fun before we return to school — virtual or in-person. Use the month ahead to squeeze in a little socially distant fun!

August 1 — It’s National Spider-Man day! To celebrate, visit the Marvel exhibit at The Henry Ford — just be sure to sign up for a time slot in advance! {Dearborn}
August 2 — Visit the Monore County Fairgrounds for some drive-thru carnival food. Perfect excuse for a road trip {or to visit the Toledo Zoo, perhaps?}
August 3 — Check out what’s new on your streaming service and have a family movie night. {The original Jurassic Park, Dennis the Menace and The Neverending Story are on my list to watch on Netflix!}
August 4 — Mask up and visit the Michigan Science Center — for FREE through August 9. {Detroit}
August 5 — Grab a free comic book at Vault of Midnight. {Ann Arbor}
August 6 — Celebrate Root Beer Float day by making one at home!
August 7 — With temps starting to cool in the evening, why not do some backyard camping?!
August 8 — Visit a local sunflower field and take family photos! {Find local places to visit here}
August 9 — Today is Book Lover’s Day. Visit your local library {or do curbside} or visit a Little Free Library.
August 10 — Pack a picnic and enjoy the views at the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House. Advance tickets required. {Grosse Pointe}
August 11 — Grab some bird seed to feed birds and walk the trails surrounding the nature center at Kensington. {Milford}
August 12 — Check out the mountain bike trails at Settler’s Park. {Hartland}
August 13 — Hike the new trails at Innovation Hills. {Rochester Hills}
August 14 — Visit Longway Planetarium for a light show featuring music by Queen. Reserve tickets in advance – limited to 30 people. {Flint}
August 15 — Take an adventure to visit the gorgeous rock formations called The Ledges in Grand Ledge.
August 16 — Admire the amazing oak trees and enjoy the Friendship Woods trail around the Red Oaks Nature Center. {Madison Heights}
August 17 — Visit a new playground. One of our favorites is County Farm Park in Ann Arbor.
August 18 — Even if you plan to do virtual or homeschool, take some time to create a back-to-school sign to commemorate the year.
August 19 — Visit Sloan Museum at Courtland Center Mall and explore traveling exhibits Extreme Deep: Mission to the Abyss and Roll, Drop, Bounce, as well as historic vehicles from Sloan Museum’s Collection. Tickets limited. {Burton}
August 20 — Today is National Lemonade Day. Encourage the kids to set up a stand!
August 21 — Try a DIY science project from the Ann Arbor Hands On Museum.
August 22 — Check out the Silver and Gold Treasure Hunt in Wayne County! It’s $50/ticket with the potential to find $4,000 in prizes. A portion of the proceeds benefits the Children’s Leukemia Foundation.
August 23 — Plan a visit to The Reptarium for some hands-on learn about reptiles. {Utica}
August 24 — Practice reading by visiting a StoryWalk trail. {Like this one in Highland}
August 25 — Learn about poetry and art at Oaken Transformations Sculpture Park. {Brighton}
August 26 — Break up the day with a treat! Pineapple Whip slushies are just $1 at Taco Bell from 2 p.m. – 5p.m. and such a delicious treat 😉
August 27 — Grab a tube and head out to the Argo Cascades. So much fun and FREE to do! {Ann Arbor}
August 28 — Rent canoes or kayaks at Heavner’s in Milford and go around the Huron River.
August 29 — Visit Campus Martius for Movie Nights in the D showing Back To The Future. Showing at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. FREE, but advance tickets required. {Detroit}
August 30 — Pack and picnic and explore the gorgeous gardens at Meadow Brook Hall. {Rochester}
August 31 — Is it too early for cider a donuts?! Nah! Start planning ahead and put together a fall bucket list with your family.
