Dear Miles,
Happy birthday Bubs {dad’s name for you} // Mies {my name for you}! I can’t believe it has already been another ride around the sun for you. It seems like just yesterday you came into the world on a bright, sun-filled day. The weather upon your arrival has been indicative of your personality because you are truly the SUN in our family.
Today you are six.

A whole hand plus one is quite a bit. No longer a baby, but still sweet, cuddly, and not too cool to love on your mama.
This year brought you a ton more independence — first two lost teeth, flag football, being student of the month, “big school” and begindergarten, starting to read, and so much more.

You probably also grew a foot this year. When I pick you up, your feet almost dangle all the way to my shins. Don’t worry though, I won’t stop picking you up until I can’t any longer. I can’t say no to cuddling with you whenever it’s requested, which is still often these days. I have a feeling by the way you eat food, you are going to be a big kid. Only time will tell!
One of my favorite things about you is how awesome you play. Pretty much from sun up to sun down, you are outside with your best buddies — stopping in for the occasional meal or snack and to ask “can I play Nintendo?” even though you know darn well I am going to say no. Video games are your favorite thing ever. I am slowly coming around to them, but know I will never *not* set limits, dude.

People love you wherever we go — teachers, strangers, family, friends — everyone seems to enjoy your upbeat outlook on things. You just exude happiness. I mean, how can someone not love those crinkly little eyes and smile?
I would be remiss to not mention the mischief you make, too. You single-handedly have broken more things in our house than I can count. It’s painful for me to buy you anything of value because it seems to get broken in a matter of minutes when placed in your hands.
This year you also attempted lying on a few occasions. When I look you in the eyes and remind you “moms always know when their children are lying,” the truth and tears spill out. I am glad you are remorseful, but know my words are true and it’s better to fess up than get caught in a lie down the road.
However…again, that darn smile. It sure also seems to get you out of a lot of trouble with me too and dad likes to tease that I am wrapped around your finger. That may or may not be true 😉 You definitely know how to work me to get what you want.

This year has brought about major changes with Covid-19, but you have never once let it bring you down. You are our go-with-the-flow kiddo. Maybe it’s because you’re the third child and have no choice, but I also just think it’s your personality. I adore your enthusiasm and hope you never lose your zest for life.
Please know your dad and I are SO proud of the awesome young man you are becoming. Keep on smiling and setting a good example for others this year. We know you are going to ROCK kindergarten and make it a great year.
Love you to the moon and back, times infinity.
Kisses,
Mom
