Halloween is my favorite holiday for so many reasons…Scary movies, donuts and pumpkins at my favorite spot, haunted houses, and of course, the excuse to dress up, are just a few.
This year looks a bit different with less events, but there is still some fun to be had! I’ve joined forces with some fellow local bloggers to share Southeast Michigan Halloween Happenings, and since I live in Livingston County, I’m covering this area. Please note some are not family-friendly because let’s be real — Halloween isn’t just for kids! 😉

- Description: Join Psychic Medium, Dianna O’Grady on a stroll through the 150 year old streets of Downtown Howell, where the the past and present come alive! Hear accounts of ghostly apparitions, shadow figures, and orbs, as experienced by local business owners, local residents and paranormal investigators. An RSVP is required.
Weekends, October 2-25: Ghostly Grove {Haunted Attraction – NOT for Little Ones!}

- Description: Set in the abandoned woods located on Schell Family Farm Orchard, this haunt feature’s scares that feed upon people’s deepest fears.
October 9: Pumpkin Partner Yoga at Fawcett Farms
Fawcett Farms | 6909 N Latson Rd., Howell
- Time: 6 p.m. – 6:45 p.m.
- Cost: $20/adult child pair and includes two pumpkins to take home
- Descrption: Join Ashley & Logan as they lead you through a fun Pumpkin Yoga flow FAMILY style! This outdoor Michigan fall experience is perfect for parents, grandparents, caregivers, and their children, ages 5 and up.
October 11: Ninja Trick-Or-Treat Challenge at Howell Nature Center
1005 Triangle Lake Rd., Howell
- Time: 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
- Cost: Members: $40 per person Non-members: $45 pre-registered; $50 walk-in
- Description: Put your skills to the test in the spook-tacular ninja warrior challenge! Make your way through a festive obstacle course, climb a 60ft rock tower, and zip across a 500ft zip line!
October 17-31: Headless Horseman Graveyard Challenge
Virtual Race
- Time: Your own time!
- Cost: $25 or $30 if you’d like your shirt shipped your way
- Description: This virtual race for all ages includes 5 of Howell’s most prominent cemeteries through Marion Township, City of Howell, and Oceola Township, equaling 17 total miles. Participants will not run the literal route between the cemeteries but are encouraged to chip away at the 17 mile total during the two week event by running, walking, biking, etc. Registration deadline is Oct. 1.
October 17: Pinckney Pumpkins in the Park
Downtown Pinckney
- Time: No time
- Cost: FREE
- Description: The Pinckney Halloween Spooktacular has been cancelled this year, but there still will be a pumpkin decorating contest. Bring your carved or decorated pumpkin downtown and place it along the north side of the Square. It can be purely for fun or if you’re interested in competing, email a picture of your pumpkin with your contact information to zoning@villageofpinckney.org. Winners will be notified by October 31st.
October 17 & 18: Howl-O-Ween at Howell Nature Center
1005 Triangle Lake Rd., Howell
- Time: 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. and 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.
- Cost: HNC members: $5/adult & $10/child; general ticket: $7/adult &$12/child. Non-participating infants are free with any adult.
- Description: Dress up your little critter and visit the nature center for a HOWLing good time! This merry-not-so-scary event features trick-or-treating through the Wild Wonders Wildlife Park. Pre-event registration is required.
October 22: Trunk or Treat at Serra Honda
8294 Grand River Ave., Brighton
- Time: 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.
- Cost: FREE
- Description: Stop by Serra Honda for pizza, cider, donuts, AND a drawing for a gift basket! Dress-up and receive a FREE pumpkin, $100 Target Gift card for any New or Used vehicle purchased. Additionally, kids can trick or treat!
October 27 – November 7 {Various Dates}: Public Ghost Hunt at the Historic Howell Theater
315 E. Grand River, Howell
- Time: 9 p.m. – 11 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. – 2 a.m.
- Cost: $15/person in advance; $20 at the door
- Description: Join the investigators of Portal Paranormal Society for the 6th annual series of public ghost hunts. Learn about the history of the theater and participate in the attempt fo make contact with the resident spirits. Each hunt is limited to 20 people! Space is limited so NO REFUNDS.
October 23 & 24: Legend of Sleepy Howell {Drive-Thru Experience}
Downtown Howell at Scofield Park | Thompson St., Howell
- Time: 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.
- Cost: $15/car
- Description: Visit Scofield Park for a special drive-thru experience! The drive will feature a {not-so} spooky laser light show, plus there will be trick-or-treat spots along the way. Registration is required. Sign up per vehicle.
October 24: FREE Trunk or Treat at Fawcett Farms
6909 Latson Rd., Howell
- Time: 2 p.m. – 5 p.m.
- Cost: FREE
- Description: Visit Fawcett Farms for their first ever trunk or treat! Event is free. Register via their Facebook page.
October 24 & 25: Zombie Escape at Howell Nature Center
1005 Triangle Lake Rd., Howell
- Time: 3 p.m. – 6 p.m.
- Cost: Members: $40 per person Non-members: $45 pre-registered; $50 walk-in
- Description: Zombies are taking over the Nature Center! Test your skills at the archery field, practice basic survival skills with fire/shelter building, and make your ESCAPE fleeing down a 500ft zip line! Will you survive? Recommended for ages 8 and up.
October 25: Trunk or Treat at Howell First United Methodist Church
1230 Bower St., Howell
- Time: 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
- Cost: FREE
- Description: Safely Trunk or Treat with Howell FUMC – Parade the drive thru stations to view trunks and costumes from your vehicle. A goodie bag of treats will be given to each child in your vehicle at the end of the drive thru. Each bag will have been packed safely by mom volunteers from Howell FUMC. The first 400 children will receive a goodie bag.
October 25: Trunk or Treat at Brighton First United Methodist Church
400 E. Grand River, Brighton
- Time: 5 p.m. – 6 p.m.
- Cost: FREE
- Description: Instead of picking up candy at each trunk, there will be one station at the end of the walk through that will have prepackaged take-home bags of candy and other fun surprises for each child to grab! Select a time for your family’s arrival here.
October 28: Trunk or Treat at First Presbyterian Church of Brighton
300 E. Grand River, Brighton
- Time: 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
- Cost: FREE
- Description: Celebrate Halloween in a fun and COVID-safe way! There will be trunk stations set up in the church parking lot and trick or treaters will drive through in their cars to collect candy. This is FREE and open to everyone in the community. Wear your halloween costume and bring a bag to collect candy in, and get ready to have fun!
Throughout October: Historic Howell Theater Backlot Drive-In Halloween Movies
Historic Howell Theater | 315 E. Grand River, Howell
- Time: Movies start at 7:45 p.m.
- Cost: $20/car
- Description: Visit the Historic Howell Theater backlot for special drive-in movies! Features so far include Ghostbusters {Oct. 9-10} and Coraline {Oct. 16-17}. Check the website as more special Halloween films are added for inside as well.
