When I was brainstorming content ideas for the year, I reflected on the posts I enjoy the most from my favorite bloggers…And one simple idea that stuck out was posts where they picked their favorite items from the month {some sponsored, some not} and share. We all love recommendations, don’t we?! I love reading those posts and have learned of so many great products that way!
Initially, I thought I’d craft this post to feature similar categories each month, but honestly, I know how my brain rolls, so it’s likely going to look slightly different each month. Some will be family-friendly items, some will be items just for adults or date nights, and some will be local. Not all will be products — there will surely be places and moments featured, too.
So here goes…my picks for January 2021!
Favorite Things: January 2021
BOOK: The Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking
I recently listened to this book on Hoopla while walking and cleaning {audiobooks are FREE with a library card!} and really enjoyed it. If you aren’t familiar, “hygge” {pronounced hoo-ga} is a core principle of the Danish culture and is described as a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being.
In this book, I learned it’s SO much more than that though. The text is cheesy at times, but it really has me making some audits to my life and learning the art of slowing down. The past few weeks, I’ve been focusing more on chill nights in, and making my home more comfortable. The audiobook is read by the author, and I found myself crushing on him and the Danish culture by the end! Check it out here {affiliate link}.
LOCAL PRODUCT: The Green Glove Dryer
This product has been featured on here before, but I just need to share it again because we use it so often. It’s so fantastic when the kids’ gloves come home soaked from school and I don’t want to run the dryer for just a few items. Bonus? It was created by a Michigan mom! Learn more and purchase it here.
SNACK: 100 Calorie Dill Pickle Cashews from Aldi
Oh Aldi, how I love thee! This special buy item has captured my heart and is now officially my go-to afternoon snack when all I really want is chips. Perfectly pickle-y and salty, I love that this can stay safe in my purse or in my van and not spoil. They are so good!
CLOTHING: Duluth Trading Company Lined Pants
Michigan winters are rough. I recently asked on my Instagram stories about lined pants for winter walking. I checked out a lot of options before settling on these lined pants from Duluth Trading Company. I kid you not, these are the most comfy pants EVER! They are buttery soft and so warm. A solid investment if you like to be outside but dislike the bulk of snow pants. {Watch for sales, and enter you email for coupons. I was able to score them for $60!}
BEAUTY: Cat Eye Stamp Eyeliner
Since the pandemic, I haven’t been wearing much eyeliner, but when I do, I am super digging these cool eyeliner stamps for the perfect cat eye look. If you’re terrible at make-up like I am, they are definitely a way to make it fun and much easier! Check out this product here {affiliate}.
GAME: Death Squared for the Nintendo Switch
My husband and I are always looking for fun ways to have date nights at home. This game for the Nintendo Switch has been a fun way to break up the monotony of these long, dark nights and do some problem-solving together.
We put the kids to bed, have a glass of wine, and go to work! Some are really hard, but they are so rewarding to solve! {A friend gave us the tip to buy it when it was on sale $0.99 cents, so be on the lookout. Otherwise, it’s $14.99.} Check it out at the Nintendo website here.
So there you have it — my first installment of my favorite things! I look forward to this new series and would love to take your suggestions along the way. Feel free to message me!
What has been a hit for you this month?

The glove dryer looks like a contraption my husband put together for his ski boots. Since he works teaching at Pine Knob almost every day, those boots have to DRY in between 😉 We’ll need to check out that Switch game – looks fun!

Too funny! Contraptions are definitely needed for getting in all the spots! The Switch game is super fun. The kids enjoy it too! Something different to do to pass a little time 🙂
