Spring is almost here…Who else is excited?! March is always a fun month to do a round-up about because it’s reading month, women’s history month, St. Patrick’s Day, 313 Detroit Day, the first day of spring, and more. Believe me when I say there is lots to celebrate! And don’t we all need those silly holidays now more than ever? I think so!
I’ve rounded up events and activities below. Feel free to chime in and let us know what’s happening near you too!

March 1
Sit down as a family and plan outings and fun for the month. This month brings loads of holidays and “made up” holidays that are perfect for doing something a little special.
March 2
Happy Read Across America Day! Check out your local library for virtual events and make it a priority to read daily this month. Love this list of creative reading ideas!
March 3
Do you have access to a pond? If so, take on a nature project and raise some tadpoles. {You can check out my Instagram highlight reel as we raise four of them.}
March 4
It’s Maple Syrup month and there are LOTS of events at local parks. Check the Huron-Clinton Metroparks calendar to register for a special event highlighting this delicious treat! There are lots of great events happening across the parks. {Call to reserve a spot if you aren’t able to register online — these events will fill up!}
March 5
Plan a visit to the Cranbrook Institute of Science to learn about history, nature, gemstones, and more. {Reservations required.}
March 6
Today is National Oreo Cookie Day. We are planning to test different flavors and choose our favorites. Life is short — make it sweet 😉
March 7
Visit Carousel Acres in South Lyon to see farm animals, plus interact with characters from Dr. Seuss this weekend and next. {Pre-register in advance to reserve a spot. Limited space.}
March 8
Today is International Women’s Day! Deliver flowers to the women you love the most or try one of these ideas to celebrate being a woman.
March 9
Plan an outdoor scavenger hunt in your town with friends.
March 10
This day is Mario Day…MAR10 — get it?! Like the Nintendo character! My kids are voting to make a Mario cake, I’m voting to play some Mario Kart as a family. Or go low-tech and learn to draw Mario!
March 11
Learn about the history of the Detroit River and more at the Dossin Great Lakes Museum on Belle Isle.
March 12
Walk the trails and look for maple syrup taps at Fenner Nature Center in Lansing {unfortunately tickets are sold out for their annual festival}.
March 13
Happy 313 Day, Detroit! Celebrate by thinking about all the reasons to love Detroit or plan a visit to the D.
Bonus: It’s also 50% off clothing at Salvation Army thrift stores in SE Michigan. We love using these sales to load up on seasonal items, especially for spring sports coming up!
March 14
Happy Pi Day! Celebrate with these STEM activities or bake a pie. Additionally, Grand Traverse Pie Company locations will be giving out a FREE slice of pie with any purchase on this day.
March 15
Pick up a fun DIY construction kit from Home Depot to make at home {$4.98 each at my local store}.
March 16
Take a virtual tour of the butterflies at the MSU Gardens or road trip over to Frederick Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids to see them in-person.
March 17
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Don’t forget to wear green! Teach the kids a bit about why we celebrate with this article from National Geographic Kids.
March 18
Make some festive spring art with Art For Kids Hub.

Stroll around and pet animals at The Petting Farm at Domino’s Farms in Ann Arbor.

This day is World Down Syndrome Day. Rock mismatched socks to pay homage to all the beautiful people who have three sets of the 21st chromosome!

Time for some spring cleaning! Encourage the kids to donate toys they never play with, and gather books to bring to local Little Free Libraries.

Build the ultimate blanket fort and read inside together.

Go glow-in-the-dark mini-golfing at the Putting Edge in Novi.
March 25
It’s baby animal season. We love visiting Tractor Supply Co. and seeing the baby chicks. It’s also our favorite spot to pick-up rain boots! The Kensington Farm Center is another favorite for baby animals. If you visit around 3 p.m., you will see the animals get fed, too!
March 26
Visit Troy Historic Village for a social distance-friendly Egg Hunt. Reservations should be made in advance. {Dates include both March 26 & 27.}
March 27
Visit For-Mar Nature Preserve in Burton for a Maple Syrup Open House. $10/car. Advance reservations required.

March 28
Visit a new playground. Some of our favorites are in Ann Arbor and Birmingham.
March 29
Look for signs of spring at the ultra beautiful Ledges of Grand Ledge {just outside of Lansing}.
March 30
Make some colorful art using recycled cardboard, tin foil, sharpies and tape.
March 31
Visit the beautiful Stepping Stones Falls in Flint and walk the woodsy 1.25 mile paved path.
