I may be a little bias since it’s the month of my birth, but June is the best month. Not too hot, not too cold; not too rainy {usually}. Everything is in bloom and beautiful. Also? There is TONS to do and plenty of FREE kid fun.

Take a road trip to Lansing! We love Impression 5, Lugnuts games, the murals in Old Town and more!
June 2
Pack a picnic and visit Cranbrook Gardens and check out what’s in bloom!
June 3
It’s World Bicycle Day. Are you able to bike somewhere fun? This is the perfect day to ditch the car and rides bikes!
June 4
This day is National Donut Day. Need I say more?! Perfect reason to get out for a sweet treat!
June 5
Visit Detroit for the newest art installation at Beacon Park — Bounce. While there, pop over to Cadillac Square for Downtown Street Eats and grab lunch at a food truck.
June 6
Visit Howell Nature Center from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. for a community zip day! Soar through the sky on a thrilling zip line, which stretches 500 ft across and 20 ft high off the ground. Members are $18 per person and walk-ins are $20 per person. Register is advance and save $2. The last walk-in is accepted at 1:30 p.m. Participants can show up anytime and the price includes 2 rides down the zip line. Age 5+. Register here.

Check out The Jim Henson Exhibition: Imagination Unlimited at The Henry Ford, which is free with museum admission.
June 8
Check out a $3 kids’ movie at Emagine Theatre locations. There is a new one each week, and there is FREE popcorn on Tuesdays for loyalty members. Check out this post for details.
June 9
Pack up some books and snacks and head to a local park to read together in a hammock or on blankets.

Check out a local StoryWalk trail…There are tons across the state! {The one below is at the Highland library}
June 11
Visit the Dino Safari drive thru adventure at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi. This event will take place through July 5 and is $49.95 per vehicle of 7 occupants. Purchase tickets in advance as it is a timed event to avoid overcrowding.
June 12
It’s Michigan’s DNR FREE Fishing Weekend. All fishing license fees will be waived for two days. A Recreation Passport will NOT be required for entry into state parks and boating access sites either.
June 13
Make sun prints with plants and nature. Tons of ideas can be found on Pinterest, and not all require special paper or fabric.
June 14
Visit a local beach and make a sand volcano.
June 15
Virtual storytime with The Reptarium in Utica! Today’s book will be The Day Jimmy’s Boa Ate The Wash by Trinka Hakes Noble. Two Time-Slots Available 12 PM & 3 PM Eastern Standard Time. Tickets are $10 per household and spots are limited. Once you have selected and purchased your time slot (one ticket per household) you will receive a confirmation email. A link to the Zoom event will be emailed to you before the meeting starts.

Get your “pod” of up to 25 people together and schedule a visit the Ann Arbor Hands On Museum. This would be a really neat way to see the museum without the crowds! Otherwise, you now can plan a visit at a scheduled time. Masks are required.
June 17
Visit the Sosnick Courtyard at the Max M. & Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center in Detroit on Thursday, June 17 from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. for an outdoor sensory-friendly concert by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. The concert is geared towards families with kids with ASD (toddler to mid elementary age), but all are welcome. Register in advance here to reserve free tickets.

Enjoy a water war card game. Just like War, but if you win the round, the winner gets to dump a cup of water on the losers’ head. {This is a hit here — especially when mom plays along 😉 }

Check out the Motor Muster at Greenfield Village in Dearborn. Perfect Father’s Day weekend activity if your dad/husband loves old cars!

Check out hot air balloons at my absolute favorite festival ever — the Michigan Challenge Balloonfest in Howell. While there won’t be a carnival this year, there are lots of other kid-friendly events happening this year.

Let’s go to the zoo! Which is your local favorite? A few of our favorites for young children include: Potter Park Zoo in Lansing, Saginaw Children’s Zoo and the Wilderness Trails Zoo in Birch Run.

The weather is perfect for raising butterflies at home. Grab an at-home science kit and watch metamorphosis happen right before your eyes!

Go creeking! Perfect way to cool off and discover nature. {We love playing in the river at Mill Creek Park North in Dexter and getting root beer floats at the old fashioned A&W drive-thru across the street!}

Do something different and fun for dinner, such as appetizers for a meal.

Happy social media day! Have some fun together making a TikTok or a Reel {with your child’s consent of course}.
