If you have a Dino lover in your house, a visit to the Dino Safari at Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi will be a must this summer. This drive-thru experience is in town through July 5, 2021, so there is plenty of days ahead to make the journey back to prehistoric times!
WHAT TO EXPECT
Our adventure started in a lot just west of the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, Michigan. You pull in and wait your turn to get inside. There was a porta potty near the entrance with a sign that said it’s the only spot to stop on the tour, so if your kiddo has a small bladder, I’d recommend making a stop before heading inside!
While in line, I quickly realized the kids needed to be re-configured in our van. I allowed my 10-year-old to sit up front for the tour, and my two younger kiddos sat in captain’s chairs behind me. We saw a lot of families doing the same, and even saw kiddos viewing the Dinos with their open moonroof. Definitely consider what vehicle you bring to this to ensure everyone will be able to see well! And obviously make your kiddos safe again before getting back on the road.
At the gate, each child received a passport, crayons, and a Dino egg to “protect” during the tour. We downloaded the Dino Safari app so we could follow along. It was really cute and engaging!
The first stop was Pangea. From there, we passed through several countries and listened to the audio of what life was like during those prehistoric times. There were more than 40 animatronic dinosaurs on display throughout.
My crew — ages 6, 8 and 10, enjoys Dinos, but definitely aren’t diehard about them and they really enjoyed this event. We enjoyed that it combined the history of how our planet formed in addition to educational information on dinosaurs and other extinct creatures. It definitely captured their attention the whole time.
The entire drive-thru experience took us 40 minutes. Probably would’ve taken longer if I wasn’t leading a line of cars — ha! I really enjoyed listening along too!
At the end of the tour, there was an area for merchandise. It can easily be passed, but be prepared because I know a lot of kiddos can’t resist. If you know that may be an issue for your child, maybe bring a special treat they can enjoy after.
I say this is a great idea for those looking for something fun and unique this year. I love that it’s safe and fun for all children!
