From a cookbook by a Michigan food blogger to a pickle salad kit and a fantastic podcast, there’s lots to love in this edition of Favorite Things July 2021!
Cue the music: These are a few of my favorite things…
BOOK: 30-MINUTE FAMILY COOKBOOK BY AMANDA HERNANDEZ
I’ve followed Amanda of The Nutritionist Reviews for a long time. She’s a super sweet Michigan mom to three, and always has great recipe posts as well as adorable updates of her family. She recently launched her own cookbook and I was so excited to check it out — sometimes I just really enjoy recipes on paper so I can plug my phone in and dance!
I love that the recipes are simple to follow but flavorful enough to please adult palettes, and there are great tips for getting the kids involved too! If you’re looking for recipes with lots of fresh ingredients, definitely check out her blog, Instagram, and her cookbook.
FOOD: CREAMY DILL PICKLE SALAD BY TAYLOR FARMS
Speaking of recipes…Cooking in summer can be a challenge for me. I’m so burnt out by the time dinner rolls around! For those nights, I hit the easy button. Salad kits are my favorite to try, so my curiosity was piqued when I spied this dill pickle salad at Costco.
Holy moly…If you like pickles like I do, chances are you will dig this! It’s delicious and refreshing on a hot summer day. I’ve been told it’s at a lot of different stores, so keep an eye out for it if you don’t have a Costco membership.
KITCHEN TOOL: BROWN SUGAR SAVER
We use brown sugar a fair amount here between smoking meats, adding it to oatmeal, and baking. I was sick of it getting hard sitting in the pantry and needing to nuke it to soften it up, so I was pumped when I saw this $6 solution on Amazon. This JBK Brown Sugar Saver helps to soften hard brown sugar and keep it soft for up to 3-6 months when stored in a closed container. It works SO great!
What can I say…products that make my life easier make my heart sing! Plus, it’s cute and comes in other prints too.
ADVENTURING ESSENTIAL: ALBA SUNSCREEN
A few years back, spray sunscreens were slammed for using too many chemicals and my heart broke…We go through so much every summer, so I’m not about to spend $20+ on a bottle that won’t last us a few sunny days. Also, have you tried putting lotion on kids? It’s torture! The spray just works so much better. I love this sunscreen because it’s free from harsh chemicals and it doesn’t bother my eyes like most sunscreens do.
Costco has the best prices on a two-pack, with Walmart and Amazon close behind.
PODCAST: WE CAN DO HARD THINGS WITH GLENNON DOYLE
I have been a fan of Glennon Doyle for many years and have read most of her books. I just really dig the way she frames things and it’s cheesy to say, but I feel like she has helped me to be a better and bolder person. Her podcast has been fantastic to listen to and hear her voice!
She has covered a lot of topics so far, but one of my favorites was on the topic of fun, and why women in general are so terrible at it. I also have loved her episodes on parenting. Definitely worth a listen if you’re like me and always trying to make sense of the world 😉 Find it here.
