It’s hard to believe it’s already time for back-to-school around here. The summer slipped by so fast!
While the kids may moan and groan about the return, there is a group who has been working hard to prepare — our educators.
While we enjoyed splash pads and lake time, many teachers have been thinking about the year ahead, creating lesson plans, purchasing books for their classrooms, all the while trying to enjoy their own family time too.
I have so much love and respect for teachers — it’s not an easy job but it’s the MOST important one out there.
I’m excited to partner with Green Oak Village Place in Brighton, Michigan to host a giveaway JUST for educators since we all know they deserve it!
Before I get to that though, I want to share about a few of my family’s favorite stops for back-to-school shopping at Green Oak Village Place in Brighton:
- One Salon & Spa: Get a fresh cut and/or color for fall
- Five Below: Nab school supplies, keychains for backpacks, masks, and locker supplies
- Ulta: Purchase supplies for a new make-up look, or bath bombs for some self-care
- Dick’s Sporting Goods: Visit for comfortable clothing and shoes for the classroom
- T.J. Maxx: Pick up backpacks, clothing, lunch supplies and more
- HomeGoods: Stock up on desk essentials for school, coffee, thank you cards and mugs
- Claire’s: Stock up on new accessories for fall
- Barnes & Noble: Grab some fresh fall reads or educational materials {teachers can get up to 25% off when they register for their Educator program}
- JCPenney: Pick out clothes for everyone in the family
- DSW: Check out the latest styles in shoes for the family

Find the list of complete stores here.
When you’re done shopping, make sure to check out one of the great restaurants located in the plaza:
- Grab a coffee at the Starbucks inside Barnes & Noble
- Enjoy a healthy smoothie or lunch from The Fuel
- Get a to-go order from Panera Bread
- Get take out from Kerby’s Koney Island
- Enjoy Mexican-inspired fare from Salsarita’s
- Sit on the patio at Buffalo Wild Wings or Joe Kool’s Sports Bar and Grill
- Pick up a pizza pie on a Friday night at Rollin Stone Wood Fired Pizza
We recently tried Rollin Stone and it was AMAZING. Seriously, I think I have a new pizza spot! The ingredients tasted so fresh, and I love that it’s Michigan-based.
TIP — after shopping and dining at Green Oak Village Place, check out the woodsy trail across from JCPenney. There is a paved walking path that leads to Island Lake State Recreation Area and a mountain bike trail.
