September is such a lovely month, right? Cool mornings followed by warm days, the leaves starting to change, apple picking, and perhaps every parent’s favorite reason — back to a routine!
I’ve outlined 30 things to do with kids in September below. Make it a great month!

September 1
Create some back-to-school art with Art Hub for Kids.
September 2
Head out to Novi for the Michigan State Fair and see animals, experience rides, enjoy food and more.
September 3
Today is National College Colors Day in offices and schools across the U.S. Rock your favorites, and talk to your kids about what it means to go to college. {Fire Up Chips!}
September 4
Head to the Howell Nature Center to try zip lining! {Available on the weekends and so fun!}
September 5
Check out Arts, Beats & Eats in downtown Royal Oak for live music and fun food. Admission is $5/person before 3 p.m. Make sure to check out the kids’ stage!

September 5
Learn about reptiles and more by visiting The Reptarium in Utica. $10/person and well worth it!
September 6
Visit several local cider mills and rate then to decide which one has the tastiest donuts.

Have a park hopping day where you travel to several different local parks and then vote for your favorite. {We’ve done this in Birmingham and Livingston County and it was so fun!}

Have a family game night in!

Walk the incredible gardens at the Cranbrook House in Bloomfield Hills and then take in the sights at Cranbrook Institute of Science.
September 10
Head to downtown Rochester for the annual Art & Apples Festival or to Brighton for their Smokin’ Jazz & Blues Festival, both FREE to attend.
September 11
Remember this important day in U.S. history with your children. Lots of great ideas and book suggestions here.
Families can also head to the Fowlerville Fair Grounds for crafts, tours, food, wagon rides and more during the Annual Fall Festival. Admission is $5 for adults and children ages 4 and up. {Under 4 is free.}

Happy Grandparents Day! Celebrate by having the kids create some art to send to grandparents in the mail. {Perfect opportunity for older kids to learn how to address mail too.}

Head apple picking at a local u-pick farm.

If you’re looking to take a road trip, both ArtPrize in Grand Rapids and Bright Walls in Jackson kick off on this day. Perfect spots to catch some incredible art!
September 17
Head to Romulus for their Annual Pumpkin Festival, which kicks off with a lighted night parade. FREE.

Visit Ferndale for their annual DIY Street Fair all weekend. There will be artists and makers, live music, food trucks and more. FREE to attend.
Check out the Bestmaze Corn Maze in Williamston opens today! Visit Fridays-Sundays. Tickets are $7.
Head to Detroit for DLECTRICITY, a FREE outdoor visual light + art celebration takes place in Detroit’s Cultural Center and DTE’s Beacon Park. {This looks so cool!}

Check out the South Lyon Pumpkin Fest for live entertainment, food, and of course, pumpkins! FREE to attend.
Additionally, the Ford House in Grosse Pointe will be hosting a Story Festival. Tickets are $5 for children ages 6 and up and free for those under 6.

Visit Upland Hills Farm in Oxford for their Summer Sundays program. $9/person.
