From a book of poems to one of my favorite kitchen gadget, there is a lot to love in this edition of Favorite Things December 2021!
BOOK: CALL US WHAT WE CARRY: POEMS BY AMANDA GORMAN
After reading this book, I instantly made it a goal to read more poetry in the coming year. I love how simple it is to pick it up and just read a bit, or even sprinkle it in amongst longer novels I am reading.
This collection of poems is DEEP. I really had to stop and think for some of them…They are done beautifully and in an interesting manner. A few definitely made me cry. And if you love the poem she recited at the presidential inauguration — The Hill We Climb, it’s in this book. She is extremely talented and its shown in this book!
{I link to Amazon here for convinience, but pleeeeease purchase from a book store when you can! In fact, I like to save a list in Amazon of books I want to buy to make shopping in person at stores easier – LOL!}
SCENT: PACIFICA HIMALAYAN PATCHOULI BERRY PERFUME
There is one thing in the beauty category I have loved my entire life, and that’s perfume. Since I don’t really go many places that warrant it, I’ve stopped spending a lot of money on it, but there are times I miss it. For an affordable option that makes sense for my lifestyle, I am obsessed with this scent from Pacifica. It’s got a bit of hippie mixed in there due to the patchouli, but it’s not enough to be overpowering. Coupled with hints of berry, this scent is warm and clean and perfect for wintertime. Pacifica has a great line of beauty items that are clean, cruelty free, sustainable and very affordable. Target has a great selection for in-person smelling too!
FOR THE HOME: STOVETOP POTPOURRI
As proven above, I am a bit scent obsessed…In fact, my house almost always has a candle going or some stovetop potpourri going. When you have 3 kids and a million pairs of shoes by your entryway, scent can become a major issue. I love throwing a few simple ingredients into a pot and adding some water so it can simmer while I am home. My favorite combo is cranberries, oranges, whole cloves and cinnamon, but I love experimenting with apples and essential oils too. You can see how I make the one shown below on my Instagram.
KITCHEN GADGET: CHEESE KNIFE
With NYE on the horizon and Christmas come and gone, we are in the season of charcuterie and CHEESE. If you’ve ever tried to cut cheese with a traditional knife, you know what a pain it is. I received a cheese knife as a gift from the folks at Milks Means More here in Michigan a few years back, and my life has been forever changed! This baby cuts through cheese like it’s butter. And since it’s plastic, even the kids can help. I highly recommend it for any cheese lovers in your household.
INFLUENCER/YOUTUBER: DO IT ON A DIME
Kathryn of Do It On A Dime is probably one of my favorite crafty/organization influencers out there. Not only is her bubbly personality super contagious, but she has really cool ideas! She focuses a lot on hacks from the Dollar Tree, and they are always really fun and give me great ideas. I love her recent video on Swedish Death Cleaning. Her cleaning and organizing tips always motivate me, and that’s exactly what I needed going into the new year 😉 Definitely give her a follow!
