I may be a little bias since it’s the month of my birth, but June is the best month. Not too hot, not too cold; not too rainy {usually}. Everything is in bloom and beautiful. Also? There is TONS to do and plenty of FREE kid fun.

If you haven’t done so already, create a summer bucket list of things you’d like to do. It can be simple things — lemonade stand or ice cream for dinner, or include road trips. {Get inspired here.}
June 2
Pack a picnic and visit Cranbrook Gardens and check out what’s in bloom. After, sneak over to the Cranbrook Art Museum’s artistically amazing putt-putt course.
June 3
It’s World Bicycle Day. Are you able to bike somewhere fun? This is the perfect day to ditch the car and rides bikes, even if it’s just for a loop in your neighborhood.
June 4
This day is National Donut Day. Need I say more?! Perfect reason to get out for a sweet treat and support a local bakery.
June 5
Visit New Hudson for the International Kite Festival and see some beautiful kites soaring in the sky. Kids can even get a free kite!
June 6
Check out the amazing nature-inspired Alexandria’s Playscape at the Howell Nature Center. Just fair warning, bring a change of clothes in case kids get wet 😉 {Make sure to grab a Michigan Activity Pass for free entry too!}
June 7
Go to Silver Lake in Fenton for a free show from the Silver Lake Ski Club every Tuesday at 6 p.m. This was so fun to attend last year! Pack a picnic and enjoy the show. {$5 park entrance fee}

Keep up with summer reading by seeing what challenges your library offers, checking out a local StoryWalk trail, or visiting a Little Free Library for some new reads.
June 9
Visit Detroit to check out the Monroe Street Midway, complete with rollerskating, games, mini golf, murals, and more. {Note: Closed Mondays and Tuesdays}
June 10
Check out a $3 kids’ movie at Emagine Theatre locations! There is a new one each week, and there is FREE popcorn on Tuesdays for loyalty members. Check out this post for details.
You can also head to Ann Arbor now through July 3 for hundreds of performances at Ann Arbor’s Summer Festival. Such a great lineup for live music, kid crafts, movies and more.
June 11
It’s Michigan’s DNR FREE Fishing Weekend. All fishing license fees will be waived for two days. A Recreation Passport will NOT be required for entry into state parks and boating access sites either.
June 12
Make some fun personalized DIY tie-dye towels. Super fun and easy! Learn how here.
June 13
Visit the MSU Bug House for a FREE open house event from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Such a fun way to learn, and even hold {!!!} creepy crawlies.
June 14
Visit a local beach and make a sand volcano.
June 15
Head to the Hamburg Family Fun Fest for some carnival fun. {We love this smaller carnival with lots of great events!}
June 16
Plan a road trip to Midland to visit Dow Gardens. It’s a beautiful place to spend an entire day!
June 17
Play FootGolf. Think golf with soccer balls. Great for older kids! See this list for local courses.

Enjoy a water war card game. Just like War, but if you win the round, the winner gets to dump a cup of water on the losers’ head. {This is a hit here — especially when mom plays along 😉 }
Additionally, English Gardens will be giving away bags of lady bugs at all their locations. Great for kids to learn about the impact they can have on gardens! {See event info here.}

If berries are ready, head out to pick strawberries at a U-pick farm! We love Spicers in Fenton.

It’s National Smoothie Day. Try a new flavor of smoothie! This is one of our favorites.

Happy Summer Solstice! Do something special to celebrate or work with your family members to make a summertime playlist of upbeat music.

The weather is perfect for raising butterflies at home. Grab an at-home science kit and watch metamorphosis happen right before your eyes!

Check out hot air balloons at my absolute favorite festival ever — the Michigan Challenge Balloonfest in Howell.

Grab some tubes and head to Ann Arbor to tube the Argo Cascades. {Learn more here.}

Let’s go to the zoo! A few unique ones include Potter Park Zoo in Lansing, Saginaw Children’s Zoo and the Wilderness Trails Zoo in Birch Run.

Check out the fireworks in Detroit for an amazing display on the river. Details are here. FREE.

Head to a lavender field for U-pick, or just to admire and photograph these beautiful blooms.

Do something different and fun for dinner, such as appetizers for a meal or have the kids cook for you for a change!

Go creeking! Perfect way to cool off and discover nature. {We love playing in the river at Mill Creek Park North in Dexter and getting root beer floats at the old fashioned A&W drive-thru across the street!
