Spring is officially here…Now will April showers bring May flowers? Only time will tell, but I sure hope so!

April 1
- Happy April Fool’s Day! No need for cruel jokes, even something as simple on Googly eyes on all the items in your kids’ snacks would be cute and fun 😉

- Head to University of Michigan for their spring football game. Admission is FREE.

April 2
- If you have a science-loving kiddo, check out the slew of cool events MSU is offering for their annual Science Festival. There truly is something for all ages happening all month long!
- Visit the Michigan History Center in Lansing. It’s FREE every Sunday from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
- Head to Schell Family Farm in Pinckney for a FREE egg hunt. Canned donations encouraged.
April 3
- This day is National Find a Rainbow Day! Make rainbow art such as these cute cardboard rainbows, rainbow rice, create a rainbow volcano, or do a rainbow science experiment.
- If looking for an outdoor idea, try disc golfing as a family. Most courses are free to visit.
April 4
Head biking! A few ideas: The bike trail at Hartland’s Settlers Park, the bike pump track in Hines Park in Westland, the Dequindre Cut in Detroit or the Lakeland Trail in Pinckney.
April 5
The Super Mario Bros. Movie premiers in theaters on this day. Sounds like a great excuse to visit your local spot, or wait for a Tuesday eve when it’s just $5 at both MJR and Emagine for rewards members.
April 6
- Have you ever made a spring bucket list? Get inspired with this list of 50+ ideas for things to do this spring.
- Happy Opening Day to the Detroit Tigers! Even if you aren’t heading to the game, it’s still a great day to rock your Detroit gear and celebrate at home with hot dogs, popcorn and peanuts.
April 7
Happy Good Friday to those who celebrate!
- Gear up for Easter by drawing something festive for your fridge. Art For Kids Hub has lots of cute ideas!
- Check out Ann Arbor’s annual FoolMoon and Festifools event.
April 8
- Visit the Flint Institute of Arts — it’s FREE every Saturday.
- Head to Kensington Metropark to check out the baby animals at the farm and feed the birds like a Disney princess around the nature center!
April 9

April 10
Head to Michigan State University for their Bug House open house from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. and learn all about creepy crawly creatures. FREE.
April 11
Think about a small business your family loves…and then tell them how much you love them, either with a simple note, or write a review on Facebook, Yelp, Google, etc. Let’s teach our kids starting from a young age how important it is to show up and be kind to those brave souls who own businesses. It’s not easy!
April 12
- Take a spring walk and climb the boulders at the Carpenter Lake Nature Trail in Southfield. This spot is SO fun and has a great, short paved hike for littles and strollers. FREE.
- Head geocaching as a family. Bring a trash bag to collect items to properly dispose them.
April 13
Do you have a hockey-loving family? Paint the Ice at Little Caesars Arena! For a donation to the Detroit Red Wings Foundation, you can reserve a spot to paint a personal message or image on the ice at Little Caesars Arena. Participants receive a 30-minute time slot. Parking and painting supplies are included. Spots are limited, so book it today.
April 14
Learn about the history of the Detroit River and our Great Lakes at the Dossin Great Lakes Museum on Belle Isle. Pack a picnic and eat and play on the playgrounds around the island after. FREE to visit; Michigan Recreation Passport required to enter the island.
April 15
- Check out the Unicorn Festival in Ypsilanti {get the scoop from Metro Detroit Mommy here.}
- Visit Bower’s School Farm in Bloomfield Hills for open barn from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. $10/person for ages 2 and up.
- Butterflies In The Garden is returning to Michigan State University after a 2-year hiatus. Weekends only, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and FREE. Learn more here.
April 16
Greenfield Village is now open! Visit for the ultimate educational field trip. This year, adults are $33, youth and senior are $24.75, and children 4 and under are free. Or, if weather isn’t great, check out the interactive Scooby Doo exhibit inside The Henry Ford Museum {Included with museum admission}.
April 17
- Plan a visit to a playground or several, and have your kids rate them. This is such a fun FREE activity! {We loved doing this in Livingston County last year.}
- Head out on a trek for tulips. If you can’t get to Holland this time of year, take a drive around your area to spot them. Many downtowns plant them and they spread so much joy.
April 18
Plan a visit to get cotton candy at Spun Sugar Sweet Shoppe in South Lyon because life is too short to not make it sweet 😉 I love how kind this spot is to the community.
April 19
Head to Impression 5 in Lansing for their DC Super Heroes exhibit, which is on display through May 7. Admission is $12 for adults and children ages 2+, $10.50 for seniors and military members {and immediate family} and $2 with the Museums for All program, which admits guests with a valid ID and EBT, Medicaid or WIC card.
April 20
- Head to the library for some fresh reads to take and enjoy outside in the sunshine.
- Paint kindness rocks to hide in your community.

- With Earth Day tomorrow, make art out of recycled items. Think milk caps, bread ties, cardboard boxes, and more. One of our favorite things to do is upcycle jars and turn them into art with Modge Podge and tissue paper in spring colors or make bird feeders from toilet paper tubes, peanut butter, string and bird seed.
- Create an obstacle course using chalk. We love doing this and seeing neighbor kids do what we’ve written {i.e. spin, hop, turn in a circle}.
- Head to Scranton Middle School in Brighton to see a production of Into The Woods. Tickets are $15 for adults and $13 for student and seniors. Purchased them here.
April 22
Happy Earth Day!
- Get inspired to help our planet with these activities you can do from home.
- Head to the Howell Nature Center for an Earth Day Celebration, included with Wildlife Park admission.
April 23
Today is National Picnic Day. Pack a picnic and visit a new park, or spread a blanket on the floor inside if it’s raining. If the wind is decent, try flying a kite.
April 24
- Inspire your family to do some spring cleaning. Our much needed spots this time of year are the medicine cabinet, inside our vehicles, and the garage. Ask the kids to help!
- Gather friends and plan a scavenger hunt in your town.
April 25
- Chalk your walk! Write inspirational quotes and draw happy pictures on your sidewalk or at a public playground to make others’ smile. {This always makes my heart sing!}
April 26
- Let your child take a friend to visit murals or nature-filled spots in your area for a fun photoshoot.
- Be on the lookout for U-pick asparagus soon for a fun way to show kids where our food comes from.
April 27
- Visit a new hiking trail. Here are 30+ family-friendly loop trails in Southeast Michigan.
- Looking for an excuse to get out with girlfriends? Check out Ladies Night Out from 5-9 p.m. in downtown Milford. See the event listing here.
- With weather warming up, take the time to find a new spot for ice cream and give them a try.
April 28
- Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret. premiers in movie theaters. {This was one of my favorite childhood books and I can’t wait to watch this with my girls!}
- Celebrate National Stop Food Waste Day by using up leftovers or try a recipe using items you find in your fridge that may be close to expiration. If you have older kids, empower them to try to cook something with items you have on hand. {We also love composting. See if your city sells larger composters — many do for a great price!}
April 29
- Get a head start to summer and nab the supplies to make one of these personalized tie-dye towels.
- If weather permits, cook dinner over a bonfire.
April 30
- Gear up for summer gardening by making a gnome or fairy garden.
- If school is ending soon, make a paper chain countdown to count down the days. {I know my kids will be ready!}
