Here in metro Detroit, we are lucky to have several cider mills within an hour’s drive. My favorite one is the Parshallville Cider Mill, just outside Fenton. It’s very simple and may not be much to some, but it’s the one I grew-up with and have the most fond memories of.
Each fall growing up, my family would go there for cider, donuts and penny candy. We’d grab a seat at a picnic table and fight off bees as we ate. Then, we’d get a few pumpkins, which would take us kids forever to pick out. It was a tradition I looked forward to every year.

That's me in the middle at the Parshallville Cider Mill when I was 1 year old, in between my dad and brother.
Now, I hope to create that same tradition for my family.
A few weeks ago, we went back to Parshallville – this time with my mom and grandma. We got hot donuts and cider and fought off bees as we sat at the picnic tables. It was like a trip back in time, but even better since I now have my own little family to continue the tradition. Here’s a few of the shots taken…

Adorable pics! I love that pic of you when you were itty-bitty! You always have such great photos, I really need to get out my camera more!
I take massive amounts of pics…I just got a fancier camera that cost a ton (for me), so this is how I justify it to my hubby π
I have been looking into a better camera too! It’s so worth it!
How wonderful that you’re continuing the tradtion!
And I love the photo of the 4 generations: that’s special.
Yes, I know. Although it’s hard to get a pic of all of us looking at the same time…it almost makes it funnier to look at!
I love going to the cider mill! There’s one in St. Johns that we really like, Uncle John’s Cider Mill. It’s pretty big and they always have some sort of activity going on! Lots of things to do for the kids & wine for the adults!
YES! Love Uncle John’s too. I have many memories of driving by there on my way back to school at CMU too. Love their peach wine!
Yumm, me too! I almost had my Mom get some for me!
Cider Mills have always been special to my family, too. Even my sister, who is about to give birth at any moment, has made sure everyone in my family knows about our annual Cider Mill trip on the 22nd because she’s so excited for baby Mia’s first trip!
Aww, that will be so special, Sarah. I know you’re all over this…but be sure to take lots of pics π
Love all of the photos – what a great way to carry on a tradition π
Now, I REALLY want cider and donuts!
I bet you have some gorgeous cider mills around you! Can’t wait to see fall pics you post to your blog π
Parshallville is my favorite cider mill too! Great place π
Glad you agree with me, Leigh! It doesn’t seem like many people go there…maybe that’s why I like it so much!
How fun! We go to a place similar to this called Apple Hill every year. Have been going there since I was a kid and we love it.
You should post pics – I’d love to see what cider mills are like out in Reno π
Great pics! So fun that you’ve been going to that one for so long. I love the Parshalville cider mill! I love how they (and Yates) have the old style water wheel (not even sure that’s the right name). And I love that trail that you can take along the creek. We go out there a lot and hit Spicer’s as well.
Thanks, Elena. I love the old water wheel…so neat!
