After some years of home owning, I’m starting to discover what my taste is: Eclectic. There’s just no other way to describe it. I love antiques. I love funky modern, unique pieces. I love mission style furniture with clean lines. And I love color, though I tend to stick to neutrals way more than I’d like.
My favorite items in my home have been lucky thrifty finds from garage sales. I am starting to become the $5 furniture queen! I’ve found loads of cool pieces for $15 or under. Some of my favorites:
Now that we’ve been living in our current house almost a year, it’s time to start some home improvements. Truly, our house is in great shape, but there are little things I want to do to make it ours.
In the months ahead, I hope to change our bedroom from green {a nice shade, just not for us} to an airy blue.
I was so excited when I received this basket from Macy’s, which was made in Rwanda, in the mail.
The moment I saw it, a light bulb went off. This is my color palate! I went to Home Depot to get some samples so we can choose our paint colors. I love the beautiful blues and greys shown throughout — and that it’s called “Twilight Sky.” While it’s technically a fruit bowl, it has a hanger on the back, so it’s perfect as a piece of art, which is what I plan to use it for once our master is complete.
I love the description too:
- Naturally dyed sisal coil-sewn over bundled sweetgrass
- Hand-woven in Rwanda
- Because each bowl is a unique work of art, variations in size and color will occur
- Includes a numbered Certificate of Authenticity
- Artisans receive half the wholesale price for each item sold
Ever since Macy’s introduced their Rwanda Path to Peace collection, I’ve been smitten. I loved watching the video on the site showing how my basket was made from sweetgrass in Rwanda, and I love that Macy’s works to bring financial sustainability to the artisans in this impoverished country. According to the website, the project and the income it generates has improved the lives of at least 18,000 children, providing access to education, healthcare and more. How cool is that?
There is a very talented woman behind each creation, and the various baskets would be the perfect housewarming gift for anyone who has eclectic taste like me.

As a member of the Everywhere Society, I received a basket in exchange for a review. The thoughts expressed are my own.
Where do you find inspiration for your home?

Hey there would you mind stating which blog platform you’re using?
I’m going to start my own blog soon but I’m having a difficult
time deciding between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your design seems different then most
blogs and I’m looking for something completely unique.
P.S My apologies for being off-topic but I had to ask!
