We recently had the opportunity to visit Eastpointe Manor, just outside of Detroit, for dinner and laughs with The Murder Mystery Co. The night’s theme was Dressed To Kill and focused on the fashion industry.
Doing a murder mystery dinner has been on my date night bucket list for a while, and I was excited to see what the experience would be like. We brought another couple with us, and had a fun double date — something we rarely get to do since having kids!
The company’s Detroit-area location operates out of Eastpointe Manor, a banquet hall located on Gratiot in Eastpointe.
Given the setting, it felt like a wedding — a cash bar in the corner, and a buffet prepped to house food. We were seated with several other couples, and chatted with them knowing full-well any of us could be picked for the show.
After we settled in with a few drinks, it was time to eat prior to the start of the show. The buffet was pretty tasty, which was a nice surprise since you just never know. They had a nice selection of items, including various salads, pastas, veggies and chicken. Don’t skip the potatoes — they were extra awesome! Everyone in our party agreed it was decent food.
After we finished our meal, the real fun began with the show, which took place in the middle of the room. We laughed at the lines the actors delivered — they were pretty funny and entertaining — which isn’t surprising considering they are professional improv actors.

There were several pauses during the show for the audience to interact, and stand up and walk around to ask questions of the suspects. We took notes on everything we heard, and narrowed down the clues we gathered with our tablemates to come up with a theory of what happened with the crime.
For this show, we were way off with our guess, though I still think we had a good theory! Concluding the show, there were awards given out for best costume, first and last place, as well as best actor and best actress for those playing suspects.

A few other items to note:
- Arrive early. The parking lot is small and tends to get full quickly.
- Dress to match the theme! It makes the experience more fun.
- Someone from your table may be chosen for the show. If you want to participate, or want to nominate someone, let the staff know.
- To solve the mystery, you need to work the room. If speaking to strangers isn’t your thing, you may want to skip out on this. {My introverted husband seemed to like to visit the bar during these parts – hehe}
- This experience is perfect for group dates, birthday parties, bachelorette celebrations, and corporate events.
- I would recommend it for ages 18+ only because some of the language may be considered risqué {but completely hilarious}.
- Even if you think you solved the crime, think again. It’s tricky! Note that you’ll also need to know how, when, and why the suspect committed the crime.
Overall, it was a truly unique experience. If we go back, I would like to bring a whole table full of friends to make it even more fun.

Sounds like fun. I like the part about your husband escaping to the bar area during the socializing. HE he!

He liked that part too! He’s such a good sport for always going along with my antics 😉

Sounds like a real-life game of Clue! I had heard about this place but had never been, it sounds fun.

We’ve gone to a few murder mystery themed dinners for charitable fundraisers and my wife always gets pissed at me because she actually does solve the mystery but I always persuade to table to go with my “solution” which is never close to being right. It looks like you had an entertaining and fun night.
Mrs. Weber says
Ha! Love it. Good thing we didn’t take ourselves too seriously. It was so hard! Definitely taught me I’m not detail-oriented enough to do detective work 😉
