The post below is sponsored by Captain’s Quarters Resort in Myrtle Beach. I received a complimentary stay in exchange for sharing our experience.
We’re just getting back from what I will gladly call one of our most fun vacations ever. Making memories with my kids {ages 2.5, 4.5 and 6.5} is seriously the best, and I am so excited they are all getting to a point where they love to travel. There is nothing better than seeing their eyes light up while discovering a new place on vacation!
We just spent 5 days at Captain’s Quarters Resort in Myrtle Beach. This resort was chosen due to its amenities, proximity to tourist fun {in case of rain}, and easy beach access — all crucial while traveling with little ones in tow.
This budget-friendly resort is a 13-hour drive from us here in Michigan, and has everything a kid could want — the ocean, pools {indoor and outdoor}, a bowling alley, and even an arcade.
Let’s just say my kids did not want to leave and asked if we could live there 😉 Can’t blame them — seeing this view definitely had me dreaming of the beach life, too.
Captain’s Quarters Resort is located on the south end of Myrtle Beach and has a variety of accomodations, from rooms to suites. We stayed in an angle oceanfront suite, and I would definitely recommend this option for families of 6 or less.
The view was gorgeous and I enjoyed watching the sun rise each morning from our 8th floor balcony.
Each suite includes a fridge, microwave, stove/oven, basic cookware and dinnerware, a coffee maker, and more. It was truly like a mini home-away from home. I only wished there was in-room laundry, but there was a laundry center down the hall if we needed it.
Our suite had two rooms – with the kitchen and bathroom separating them. There also was a kitchen table we could use to eat and play games on. The space wasn’t huge or fancy, but it worked really well for our family of 5.
We opted to put our little guy on a cot in the room with our girls so my husband and I could enjoy time alone after they were in bed. It worked out great since we didn’t want to go to sleep at 8 p.m. and they were so exhausted after playing in the sunshine all day.
The bathroom had two sinks and included a hair dryer and toiletries. The housekeeping kept our room stocked with towels, which was crucial since we rinsed off after every ocean/pool visit.
We loved that the resort had some fun restaurant options available — including Vista 9 — oceanfront dining on the 9th floor for breakfast and brunch, Loco Gecko Beach Shak {burgers, pizza and drinks}, and Level 6, which includes a 20-lane bowling alley, arcade, a full bar, and food.
The pizza was awesome at Level 6 and we loved the lights and vibe inside. There is a jukebox, so they cranked the tunes and the kids loved dancing around.
Personally, I had the most fun playing skeeball and earning tickets! It was a nice way to break up our day and get out of the sun for a bit, and all the machines looked new.
Since we were visiting during the off-season, we didn’t get to experience all the extra events they have for families, but they do have plenty of daily activities during the summer {glow parties, fire shows and more} so there is always something extra to do.
The property boasts 15 unique water features, which were really fun. The indoor pools and common areas surrounding seemed dated, but the kids loved the lazy river, and it was nice to have the option in case it rained. Some of the flooring did get a little slick and dirty throughout the day from water/sand, so I was glad we brought water shoes.
When I asked the kids what they liked the most about the resort, my oldest replied the ocean {and shells!}, my middle gal said the pools and hot tubs, and my little guy loved the Ship Wreck Lagoon Waterpark most.
We were lucky to have some sunny and warm days for late March, so we spent most of our time in the outdoor pools and at the beach.
As a parent, I loved being just steps away from the beach since we are always carrying so many items with three kids. It was super convenient if we forgot something and needed to go back to our room.
What stood out the most to me during our stay, however, was the service. They have been dubbed “The Friendliest Place on the Beach” for good reason — every person we interacted with was smiling — from Terry at the front desk to JR the omelette chef at Vista 9 and the workers in the bowling alley.
Overall, if amenities and budget are major factors for your family, this is a great option for a resort in Myrtle Beach.
We are SO grateful to Captain Quarters Resort for making our week one to remember!
P.S. My favorite part was definitely the views, especially this one looking at my loves 😉
TIPS FOR YOUR STAY
A few tips for getting the most of your stay at Captain’s Quarters:
- Sign up for email updates. The resort sends out discounted rates periodically. You are best off booking early versus waiting because the rates do go up. Cyber Monday is one of their best sales. Sign up for emails at the top of their homepage.
- Visit during the week! Rates climb up on the weekends, so booking Sunday-Wednesday will guarantee lower rates.
- Book directly with the resort. If you see a lower price on a third party site, call the resort and tell them so they can price match. You will get better service if you book direct, too.
- Get social! They host contests with their hashtag #HappyGuest often. Make sure to follow along on Facebook and Twitter for a chance to win a free stay.
- If the drive is daunting, look for airfare! The resort is close to the airport, and there are $100 tickets occasionally. I would recommend renting a car though so you can easily get to other areas of Myrtle Beach.

It’s definitely a trip you will need to make sometime. You need to go to tap into the food scene — there are some cool spots 😉

Any idea why there are so many negative reviews. We are going inJuly and it makes me nervous because of all negativity. We stayed at the sister resort Caravelle last year & loved it. We met people who recommended captains quarters so we decided to try it this year. I know they’re in the process of remodeling. Seeing all these negative reviews can be discouraging.
Mrs. Weber says
Hi Sarah! If you’ve stayed at Caravelle, you are familiar with Myrtle Beach hotels. It’s not a destination for luxury – if you want that, go somewhere else and spend a lot more money. Myrtle Beach is an affordable family destination, and with hurricanes, the hotels are always in need of upgrades. While it’s not perfect, my kids thought Captain Quarters was the equivalent to Disney, and that’s what was most important to us. I think people just focus on the negative too much 😉 For the price, I thought we got a lot of value. I’d love to hear your thoughts after your visit though. Enjoy!

Sounds like a super fun trip! We’re getting rain for spring break at home, it looks like… Thanks for sharing the review – I’m hesitant to stay somewhere besides the big name places without a recommendation 😉

You went to Myrtle Beach at a great time. We had such a chilly March here in Michigan, I would have loved to have been on a beach vacation last month. I’ve never been to Myrtle Beach, but I’ve always wanted to visit. I like how Captain’s Quarters really caters to families’ needs since Myrtle Beach is such a big family vacation destination. And, you really can’t beat having a balcony that looks out over the ocean, right?
