I received tickets to Day Out With Thomas in exchange for promoting the event. All opinions expressed are my own.
Bust my bumpers! Day Out With Thomas has officially rolled into Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad in Flint for the next two weekends.
This annual event is a favorite for local families, and for a good reason. It’s a blast! I highly recommend attending at least once while your kids are little. This was our fourth time attending {once at Greenfield Village and three times at Crossroads}, and it is fun for the kids every single time.
In case you aren’t familiar, Crossroads Village is a gorgeous park filled with historic buildings, vintage rides and beautiful open spaces. It’s clean, easy to navigate, and there are plenty of bathrooms and baby changing/nursing stations throughout the park. The staff is phenomenal as well — every person we encountered was great with kids and eager to help us out.
And between the farm animals, gorgeous flowers and Thomas fun, there are loads of photo opportunities, too!
When you purchase Day Out With Thomas tickets, you not only get a 45-minute train ride, but you also get access to the village and the many fun spots set-up throughout.
FREE fun included with ticket prices includes a straw maze, inflatable bounce houses, temporary tattoos, bubbles, coloring pages, a souvenir photo booth {new this year!}, meet & greets with Sir Topham Hatt and Bob the Builder and much, much more.
Additionally, at the entrance, you will receive a map for searching for four spots throughout to get stamps. After you get them all, you can get a prize, which was Thomas-themed rubber bracelets. My kids love this interactive component, which was like a scavenger hunt.
My kids also love visiting the back corner for some really neat vintage rides. Tickets are 4 for $4 or $1.25 each and can be purchased in front of the carousel. Each ride is only one ticket. There is a carousel, mini cars, a mini train, Venetian swings, and a ferris wheel.
The ferris wheel was a ton of fun — but be warned — it goes fast! This was the view from the top:
Additional Tips For Visiting Day Out With Thomas:
- Pack a picnic and carry it in a backpack. There are spots throughout for food, but if you want to save some money, this is an easy way to do so since there are many shady spots and tables throughout.
- There is ice cream and a candy shop on the premises if you want to grab a treat. My kids opted for popcorn, which was just 50 cents for a small one near the carousel.
- My 3 and 6-year-olds walked the entire time. If you have a child that wears out easily, bring a stroller. It’s stroller/wagon friendly and there is a spot to leave your items outside the train.
- The gates open at 9 a.m. with FREE parking. We arrived at 9 a.m., 2 hours before our ride so we could park close and visit the attractions before our train departed.
- The train ride is very relaxing, so I recommend having that be your last stop for the day if possible. Also, the line loads the train from the back to the front, so if you’d like to be in the front, wait to get on.
- The train ride is 45 minutes, so make sure kids eat a snack and go to the bathroom before boarding. There is no bathroom aboard the train and no food or drink is allowed.
- If your child has noise sensitivities, bring noise-cancelling headphones if things like a train whistle may be bothersome.
Day Out With Thomas continues this weekend through Sunday and will also run next weekend, August 25-27.
