I have to let you in on a little secret: One of my favorite spots to explore is Flint, Michigan.
I’ve always been a fan of underdog cities, part because the grit is just more interesting, and part because these spots tend to be less crowded than typical tourist cities.
The people and the spirit of Flint have left an impression on my heart and my family has made so many memories there. There are some fantastic spots to eat, drink and play in F-Town, so don’t leave it off your list for places to explore in Michigan with kids. Every time I visit I discover a new gem!
Here are some of my favorites for kids. Plan a day trip and explore!
Things To Do In Flint With Kids
Sloan Museum
Learn about Flint’s history, encourage imagination in the Wisner’s Whizbang Emporium, and check out a fantastic traveling exhibit while at this gem of a museum. Visiting is a great way to spend part of a day! There is even a nursing room for mamas…It’s the little things, right?
NOTE: Sloan Museum is under construction. You can find the current exhibit, Robot Zoo, at the Courtland Center Mall in Burton!

Stepping Stone Falls
Did you know Flint is home to its very own waterfalls? Think natural beauty turned into art. The falls are breathtaking, and the park and Flint River Bike trail that surround it are gorgeous and well-kept. Bonus because it’s FREE to visit and perfect for a picnic!

Bluebell Beach
This public beach is not only free, but it’s a great place to explore! Additionally, there is a splash pad {also free} for kids there, too. Nothing like some inexpensive water fun!

Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad
Crossroads Village is a quaint authentic Great Lakes town from the turn of the last century, with over 30 historic structures. Visit the village during all seasons for some amazing special events, and don’t forget to add a train ride on the Huckleberry Railroad while there!

Flint Farmers Market
This public indoor market is open year-round and is the perfect spot to find something fresh or just grab lunch at one of the 50+ vendors. Highlights include a meat market, poultry, breads and baked goods, cheese, a wine shop, an art gallery, a cafe, middle-eastern and Mexican groceries, and many unique gifts.

Flint Children’s Museum
This museum is one of my children’s favorites for good reason: It’s small enough to manage with multiple kids with multiple needs, and there is plenty of fun — from science lessons to music and imaginative play at more than 40 hands-on educational exhibits. Geared toward the younger crowd.
Flint Institute of Art
This museum has some amazing art. The sculptures are my favorite! Bonus because it is FREE on Saturdays, so it’s the perfect intro to art for kids without spending a ton of money.
For-Mar Nature Preserve and Arboretum
This is a must-visti for hikers and nature lovers. Start in the Visitor’s Center for a hands-on experience with live {and taxidermy} animals and follow the Nature’s Super Heroes to the new treehouse!
