The post below is sponsored by the Flint Children’s Museum. All opinions belong to me.
For all the times I’ve talked about my love of the Flint Children’s Museum to people, I realized I hadn’t ever done an official post about it, so when I had the opportunity to visit recently, I decided it was about time!
I often recommend this gem to parents who ask me what to do with their toddlers and preschoolers. My answer varies depending on interests, but the Flint Children’s Museum is always top of mind. There’s no doubt my 5 and 7-year-olds adore this spot too, but it really caters to the younger audience, which is so nice since our options are limited for that age group.
The last time I visited, my little guy was just crawling, so he absolutely loved being able to do everything now that he’s three. He had a fantastic time exploring with his best buddy!
There are so many reasons to enjoy visiting the FCM. Here are my top reasons:
Top Reasons to Visit the Flint Children’s Museum
Parking is a breeze. The FCM has parking spaces next to the building and directly behind it. It seems like a small perk, but it really is crucial and awesome with little ones in tow.
It’s stroller-friendly. The space isn’t huge, so a stroller isn’t necessary for walkers, but it’s all on one level, which makes it an easy spot to bring infant siblings. The areas between exhibits is nice and open, too.
Little ones can touch EVERYTHING. This is the case at most children’s museums, however, this one takes the cake as one of the more little kid-friendly since all exhibits are pint-sized. Kids can even climb into Cinderella’s carriage or perform on a stage made just for kiddos.
There is a great variety of exhibits. Children can engage in science, building, imaginative play, musical fun, and more. It’s hard to name a favorite, but the dramatic play area at the end is my favorite as a parent. My kids could shop at the grocery store and make pizzas at the pizzeria all day.
It’s clean and well thought-out. We arrived shortly after the museum opened and everything was clean. During flu season, cleanliness is definitely a priority for parents. There is two sets of bathrooms inside the space and a few sanitizer stations inside. My advice to parents looking to avoid germs is to just be sure to wash your hands thoroughly after any visit and again before eating.
It’s affordable. Let’s be real, for the 5 and under crowd, most places are only enjoyable for a few hours before a meltdown occurs due to tiredness or hunger. I love that this spot is only $6 for kids and adults. For the same {or less} than a matinée movie ticket, you can experience some fantastic sensory play that will also wear out the kids. Win-win! Additionally, the FCM has several sponsored free days during the year, allowing access for ALL income levels.
You can bring in food. There isn’t a cafe on the premises, but guests are able to pack a lunch and eat it in a designated area at the front. To be kind to others, I always suggest making sure you pack items that are peanut/tree nut-free to eat in a public space.
Exhibits change. There are a few mainstays, but each time we visit, there is something new to explore. The Big Blue Room was so much fun, but will only be at the museum through March 16, so get there while you can!
Overall, I think my photos speak for themselves: This is the perfect place for kids to explore! Have fun if you visit 🙂
