Since my post about County Farm Park in Ann Arbor went over so well, I wanted to share about another amazing park just a few miles from there — Gallup Park. Pack a picnic and hit up both for a great FREE day in Ann Arbor!
I’ve known this park to be a fantastic spot to canoe/kayak, but did you also know it is home to an amazing, inclusive playground for all abilities?
There’s more too! Gallup Park is a 69-acre park located along the Huron River and Geddes Pond with scenic walkways. In addition to two playgrounds, the park also has a canoe livery, picnic areas, picnic shelters, an open field for play, and more than three miles of asphalt trails.
But the biggest gem for kids is the Rotary Centennial Playground located near the back of the park.
My kids really enjoyed the “bumpy” slide, teeter-totter, and sand area, and had fun just climbing around and exploring for awhile.
There are some really neat play structures here, with plenty of opportunities to climb.
I love that this is an inclusive playground, with options for children that are wheelchair bound. It all flows together perfectly!
However, when my kids saw the water, their eyes lit up. I wouldn’t say this is a great place to swim — it’s a pea gavel entry, and there is goose poop on the ground — but for kids that need to cool off, it’s perfect.
Mine just about fell over when I told them I was fine with them going in in their clothes. It was a hot day and they wanted to cool off! This is why I always have plenty of extra clothes in the car 😉
Teenagers were jumping off a nearby bridge, so we enjoyed watching them, even if my mom brain was screaming “danger!”
Overall, Gallup Park is a great spot to explore nature and enjoy the outdoors.
Getting There
To get there, you are going to want to put Gallup Park into your GPS. Once you enter the park, you are going to follow the park all the way to the back {maybe a mile, tops}. You’ll head over a one-way bridge, so be sure to look out for cars, and you will spot the playground and adjoining parking lot on the left side toward the back.
Check out more FREE fun at this big list!
Have fun if you visit! Where is the last great park you’ve visited?
