Spun Sugar Shoppe in South Lyon is a Candy Lover’s Dream

Stepping into the Spun Sugar Shoppe in South Lyon, Michigan, is like stepping into a magical dream. Visit for a sweet experience for all ages!

There is nothing more magical than a candy store, and finding candy shops in whatever town we are visiting is one of my family’s favorite pastimes. Something about the colors, scents, and getting the chance to pick something — is so exciting!

When I asked my kids where they would like to go for a recent report card reward, they immediately said “A candy store!” …and I knew just the place we needed to visit: Spun Sugar!

The Spun Sugar Shoppe is the brainchild of Spun Sugar Detroit founder, Mandy Tamborini, who started her business with her twin sister as a mobile cotton candy cart after leaving her corporate job. She decided to open up a brick and mortar location this past fall. Even though it has been hard for her not to see children’s smiles under our masks, she is still delighted to make a child’s day with sweet treats and it’s very evident with the whimsical way the store is decorated. If your child loves bright colors, mermaids, unicorns and more, they will be in heaven!

Upon arrival, we were greeted by Mandy and asked if we’d like a complimentary cotton candy cone. That’s the type of treatment she gives…You can tell she LOVES her job and making kid’s smile!

About The Cotton Candy

The rainbow of cotton candy flavors that greets you at the entrance brings about instant happiness. And after tasting it, I cannot wait to go back and try some of the amazing flavors the shoppe has.

Kid-friendly flavors spotted included birthday cake, s’mores, bubble gum and fruity pebbles, while more “adult” style flavors include honey lavender, strawberry champagne, honey rose and ginger peach. YUM! Check out the flavor list here.

What makes the cotton candy unique is the fact that is can be made organic with no chemicals and uses natural plant based dyes. It’s also gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free and vegan.

{Note: Although great care is taken when cleaning the equipment to avoid cross-contamination, please be aware that all flavors are manufactured on equipment that may have come in contact with peanuts and tree nuts. If you have specific allergy concerns, contact them for more information.}

There is a fantastic selection of other treats too — from gourmet lollipops to bulk candies and high-end chocolate bars. They even carry a variety of whimsical party supplies and Michigan-made goodies such as Browndog Creamery ice cream.

After, you can enjoy your treat on the tables or on the lawn outside. It definitely could be a fun little spot for a sweet picnic or to enjoy a treat without the risk of getting sticky in the car. When cotton candy is involved, don’t forget the wipes, parents 😉

Spun Sugar in the Community

It’s clear owner Mandy has a heart of gold and has been such an amazing asset to the Detroit area community. In fact, at the moment, if you are in need of an Easter basket, she is giving them away to any child in need — just send her a message on Facebook. She also plans to do more kid-friendly events in the future such as yoga, tours, and more.

Overall I cannot recommend this business enough. Locally made, people that give back, and most important — DELICIOUS. Visit and I promise it will make your week much sweeter! And can’t we all use a little sweetness these days?

Spun Sugar Shoppe is located at 10630 Rushton Rd., South Lyon, MI 48178.

Look for a white building with blue shutters and a pink sign. It’s a nice location with plenty of parking and tables and space outside for kids to play or run around if they have a sugar buzz 😉
