It’s the return of Farmers Market season here in Michigan…YAY! There’s just something about going to a local market and talking directly to the farmers who made your food. Not to mention admiring the beautiful colors, people watching, taste testing and free kid fun, too. Thankfully, Michigan has an abundance of beautiful produce, meat products, dry goods and more.
In fact, here are some cool facts about Michigan agriculture!
12 Facts About Michigan Agriculture
- Michigan slices more apples than any other state for use in pies and fresh-cut slices

Cool stuff, right? Obviously it’s easy to buy local when you are aware of what comes from our own state and when it is in season. But for those times you want to chat directly with those producing your food, farmers markets are wonderful.
Don’t forget to barter at the end of the day for the best prices, too! {While most markets are outside in 2021, they will require face masks, so come prepared!}

I love Farmer’s Market season! The one in Downtown Rochester is one of my favorites. It has a large enough variety (meats, dairy, veggies, and more) but small enough that you can really talk to the owners and get to know them.
Mrs. Weber says
I love that one too!

Clawson has a teeny tiny farmers market too … I went once. Literally like 10 stands. I should try the RO one though, I know that one is bigger :).
Mrs. Weber says
Thanks for the tip — I added it 🙂 And yes, definitely go to the R.O. one…That almost rivals Eastern Market — it’s big!

I loooove farmer’s markets, so this list is a huge help–thanks! 🙂 Also a lot of surprising ag facts…I knew cherries were big in Michigan, but soybeans?
Mrs. Weber says
I know! We have great soil for them…Who knew?!

I love going to farmers’ markets, especially Eastern Market in Detroit. This is such a great resource, so I’ve pinned it to my Travel | Michigan board for my Pinterest followers. I really enjoyed the fun facts shared about Michigan’s agriculture industry. I actually knew Huron County was the top bean producer from my day’s as a reporter up in the thumb!

I’m so excited that I live walking distance from the Warren Farmers market. I can’t wait to hit it up on Sundays.
