With incredibly diverse agriculture, there simply is nothing better than visiting all of our amazing farms in Michigan. As U-cut flower farms become more popular around the state, there’s one flower that can’t be beat — and that’s lavender. Not only is it known to calm anxiety, but it also attracts beneficial insects, like bees and butterflies. Spending some time in a lavender field is so relaxing and beautiful. Lucky for us, just about each area in Michigan has a grower that welcomes the public in to see these purple beauties.
As most Michiganders travel around in our own gorgeous state during summer, I wanted to share about u-pick lavender farms in Michigan farms as well as farms that host events, and even a few that have an Airbnb right on the property.
The season for lavender in Michigan typically runs from mid-to-late June through August, depending on the variety.
Picking lavender is easy as it just requires scissors. You simply cut the flower 2-3 inches from the base of the plant — so kids can easily help. Visit and you won’t be disappointed.
Let’s get out there and support these amazing growers!
Note: There are lots of lavender farms in Michigan, but many are not open to the public. Never roam a farm without permission. Always check websites or call before visiting as hours vary due to weather and growth.

BENEFITS OF LAVENDER
Lavender is mostly used for its aromatherapy properties though healers have used it medicinally for centuries. The fragrance is believed to promote calmness and wellness. It’s also said to reduce stress, anxiety, and even mild pain.
WHAT TO DO WITH LAVENDER
The most common thing to do is to dry it. Create several small bunches from what you harvested and hang it to dry in a dark place for 7-10 days. Once it’s dry, there are lots of things you can make from lavender lemonade to lavender sachets, which make great gifts {and help repel moths}. Here are some additional ideas.
Have so much fun if you visit a lavender farm this season!
