One of my favorite websites to check out as I gear up for summer fun is Michigan Activity Pass.
If you aren’t familiar with this program, the Michigan Activity Pass {aka MAP} is presented by The Library Network program and is a partnership between Michigan’s nearly 400 public libraries and hundreds of state parks, historic sites, cultural attractions, campgrounds and recreation areas.
It celebrates 15 years in 2022 and is such a great resource for families looking for budget-friendly fun!
I’ve mentioned this pass many times on my blog, but it’s high time I wrote explicitly about the passes as families start to plan summer adventures. I’m super excited they now have mobile passes, which helps save trees and makes life even easier to plan.

How To Get A Michigan Activity Pass
- For starters, you need a library card. So if you don’t have one, head to your nearest library and nab one. While you’re there make sure to see what resources your library has — mine has games, puzzles, activity bags and plenty of great programming. Libraries are true community gems. Support yours!
- Visit http://michiganactivitypass.info
- Enter your start location using your zip code.
- Select the button that corresponds with the max miles you want your search to cover.
- Enter the name of your library in the “My Home Library” text box.
- Refine your search as needed. You can search by all destinations or you can limit by subject.
- When you have selected the attraction you want to visit click on the more info button to see what the offer is. Otherwise, hit the “Get Pass” button.
- Click on “Request Pass” to begin the reservation process.
- Fill out your name, phone number, email address and library card number fields.
- In order to utilize the mobile pass feature, you must select either the “24 hours before”, ”48 hours before” or “1 week before” option from the “Send email reminder” drop down menu. If one of those options is not selected the user will not receive a confirmation email/mobile pass.
- Click on the “Submit this Request” button to finalize the reservation.
- Show your pass when you arrive at your destination!
3 important things to note from the MAP team:
1. Patrons may check out one MAP pass per library card every 7 days.
2. When you check out a MAP pass, you have 7 days from the date it was reserved to use it.
3. Prior to your visit, make sure to check the museum’s website in order to verify hours of operation, etc.
That’s it! Have fun on your adventure while potentially saving your family some moula!
