I’ve always been a Christmas purist — classic green tree, classic red and green only. My decor style hasn’t wavered much during the past 10 years of owning homes. I know what I like, that’s for sure!
But each year passes, and I tell myself the same thing — to part with a few items and add a few more to my Christmas stash.
One thing I love each holiday season is hanging ornaments. I love the memories that come flowing with each one, and I love the colors, the shine, the glitter. It’s the one time of year I really enjoy going a little over the top with the glitz, ya know?
Since we painted our kitchen this year, I wanted to shop for some pops of color to make it more festive for the holidays. Ornaments to the rescue! I love that they are very inexpensive and so perfect for having some DIY fun with.
Budget Christmas Decor: 6 Ways To Use Ornaments in Your Kitchen
Centerpiece
Ornaments add the perfect amount of color and pizazz to any centerpiece.
DIY Garland
Simply string the ornaments on string or ribbon for a garland effect. You can get as crazy as you’d like and make a long strand, or even just do a mini one for a colorful touch on windows or a cupboard. I love that it makes our white cupboard look like a present!
Vase
Pop off the top of an ornament and place some holly or berries inside for a festive vase. Use a lid from a bottle for a stand.
Showcase in clear jars
I love clear jars because they can be used in ALL seasons — mini pumpkins in fall, ornaments for the holidays, eggs for Easter, etc. They look pretty everywhere they go, too. I love using different shapes and sizes. You can even use an upside down wine glass and top it with a tea light candle for a beautiful effect.
Hang from light fixtures
Create a great pop of color right from your light fixture. Just use ribbon, hooks or string and cut them in various lengths.
Work with existing greenery
If you have green plants or any type of greenery, dress it up with mini ornaments. I love this little tree I got from At Home for $3.99. It’s perfectly hides my outlets and was made even more festive with a few small ornaments.
I am looking forward to entertaining this holiday season. It’s so fun having some fresh decor around the house.
