I received complimentary admission to Cranbrook on the Green mini golf. All opinions expressed belong to me.
A visit to Cranbrook’s amazing campus is always on my radar during the summer when the fountains are on and the flowers are in bloom. It’s absolutely gorgeous and there is enough to do to spend an entire day on a budget.
One thing on our summer bucket list was to visit Cranbrook Art Museum‘s new artist-designed mini golf course. We got the chance to visit and it was such a fun activity with my active crew, including a 7, 9 and 11-year old.
This wasn’t just your typical putt-putt golf though. Each of the 10 holes had a unique twist, whether it was shot like skeeball, or included a giant dinosaur to putt through. The holes are all inspired by the art and design of Cranbrook.
My favorite, which was modeled after the sunken gardens at Cranbrook House and Gardens:
How beautiful is that?!
We were eager to read each sign to learn about the design and pay attention to the special tip to help navigate the hole.
It took us about 40 minutes to get through all of the holes. Tickets are timed, so while it was busy, we never had to wait more than a few minutes.
A few other rules to mind while playing:
- Groups are limited to 4 people per scorecard
- Wait for the group ahead to finish at each hole before your group begins to play
- There is a limit of 7 strokes per hole
- The ball can be moved 6 inches from walls or obstacles without penalty
- 1 penalty stroke if a ball jumps out of the hole, and start where the ball exited
- Treat the course like the work of art it is!
Overall I highly recommend this activity for something fun and unique to do that also supports the art community.
TIP: If you’re hot after, there is a small shop inside the art museum that has snacks and drinks.
Tickets
Tickets to Cranbrook on the Green are $8/children ages 3-12 and $15/adults. If purchased online {highly recommend}, there will be a $1.80 charge per ticket. Tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite here.
Tickets also include free admission to the art museum’s galleries {which were under construction when we visited, but will reopen again soon}. Groups that play after 5 p.m. can bring their scorecard back for free admission at another time while the museum is open.
Cranbrook on the Green will be at the art museum through September 30, 2022.
Location
Cranbrook Art Museum is located at:
39221 Woodward Ave., Bloomfield Hills, MI 48304
Cranbrook on the Green is open Wednesday–Sunday – 11 a.m. – sunset {closed Mondays & Tuesdays}. The museum is open Wednesdays – 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., Thursdays – 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Friday-Sunday – 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
If you aren’t familiar with the drive here, it’s beautiful! I enjoy looking at all the decadent mansions surrounding the property and my kids enjoy looking for “fancy” cars…Anyone else have children that want a Tesla or Lamborghini? 😉
Additional Tips
Make an entire day out of it and pack a picnic, enjoy the Cranbrook House & Gardens {free to walk around} and the Cranbrook Institute of Science, which currently has a special treasure exhibit. Enjoy if you visit!
